After some truly horrible experiences with Colchester hospital over the last few years, I am absolutely terrified to give birth there. My situation is higher risk, and I feel like if I trust this birth to Colchester hospital something terrible will happen. I've never left there happy and confident in the care received. I've started to feel like it would be worth just paying for private care. The problem is I can't seem to find the private options in Colchester. Oaks doesn't look like it offers this. Does anyone know what the options are.

Have a look online at private midwives, you could either hire one for your care and birth or I’m sure they’d be able to direct you to the other private options xxx

I don't have any advice on private but you could look at possibly moving your care to another hospital if that's an option at all. I'm going to be birthing at Broomfield hospital in chelmsford because I don't trust Colchester

You must do what is right for you and what you feel comfortable with so I’m in no way judging that. But if it helps to have a positive story from Colchester. I gave birth there and I couldn’t praise the midwives enough. I had a scary situation and they all went into action and it all worked out amazingly.

I gave birth in Colchester with my first I was induced and tbf never had any problems with staff the delivery scans or anything. My sister gave birth two weeks before me and her experience was very different 🤷🏼♀️
This time I’m having twins so chose to go to Broomfield more so because of the amount of appts and childcare (my MIL is 5 mins from the hospital) but again I’ve had friends who had twins 6 years ago and said Broomfield were terrible. I think unfortunately no matter where you go your experience can always be hit and miss which it shouldn’t be but does happen. Just go with what feels right for you, I did actually look at s private midwife but it’s very very pricey and not something I could ever afford, but maybe look at alternative hospitals and women’s experiences there? X

Have you tried looking to see if you could birth in a different hospital ? I had the option of both Colchester and Ipswich due to my location.
Also if you go into labour naturally , I’m sure you wouldn’t get turned away if you went to a hospital of preference. Obviously this is on the assumption you don’t required induction etc x
