Exercise while pregnant

Hi fellow mamas!
I’m 25 years old @ 10 weeks expecting my first wee one. Pre pregnancy I was super active, working out 5-6 times a week. I especially loved Zumba, but I was told that having a high heart rate is bad for baby. My hubby is convinced that Zumba is a total no go for me but it’s my lifeline - physically and mentally. I want to know what is the advice regarding exercise during pregnancy and if it’s ok for me to do my Zumba? Sending major love to everyone out there ❤️❤️

Hi! I’m 33 weeks pregnant and have been working out 5-6x a week the entire time. I love weight lifting (nothing crazy) and it’s truly helped me mentally. I checked with my doctor and she just told me to listen to my body, take breaks and continue doing what I was doing pre pregnancy. I’d chat with your doctor about it to make sure everything looks good with your tests, etc. I think you should be fine.

Ive been doing weightlifting for almost 15 years now. Im 8month and a half pregnant and I can’t feel better. If Zumba is part if your routine and it makes you happy keep doing it until your doctor says the opposite. You can also check your heart rate every week to make sure you’re fine🩷

Heyyy 👋🏼 so I’m actually 27 and expecting my first as well (9 Weeks), and a current Zumba Instructor. Very active and my classes are high intensity, my doctor said that as long as it’s something that my body has been used to pre-pregnancy, it should be fine. It’s when your introducing new workouts/activities that they don’t recommend but every body is different. But I currently teach 6 classes a week and everything is perfectly fine & healthy. Def find myself drinking even more water though.

I did high end kick boxing and step class all the way to the end. If your body is used to it your fine. And always listen to your body. Zumba is sooo much fun. Keep it up momma. Zumba is not over straining and it’s like a fun fast walk.

I worked out most of my pregnancy! I did HIIT 3 times a week and weight lifting and Pilates pre pregnancy. During pregnancy I did pregnancy safe Pilates and hiit, and listened to my body with weights. Things started getting more uncomfortable weightlifting around 28 weeks. And I didn’t have much energy for pregnancy safe HIIT around 37 weeks. At that point I just walked a ton. :)

I’d talk to your doctor or midwife and listen to your body. Typically most doctors say you can continue what your body was doing pre pregnancy unless there’s a reason to stop 😊

I did CrossFit my entire pregnancy 🤷🏾‍♀️😂 my doctor said that whatever you’ve been doing, you can keep doing - they just recommended not starting brand new things you’ve never done during pregnancy. So if someone has never run a mile, they def shouldn’t start training for a marathon during pregnancy but if you’ve been banging out 10 miles a day for years then there’s no reason to stop unless you just feel like it. Good luck!

I worked out 5 days a week weights and cardio till week 37 then switched to walking hills to keep my heart rate elevated and be weight bearing… exercise saved me!!! And made my delivery so much better

Hi, I’m 2 weeks pp & lifted / did cardio until the day before my baby was born. As long as you were doing it before, you’re good to do it during. Just don’t go for any PR’s ;) exercising is good for the baby’s heart. Everytime the OB checked the babies heart rate, she said how strong it was. Also, delivery & recovery is much easier if you exercise your way through pregnancy.

I feel like working becomes more about staying in shape mentally than physically 🤣 for me Zumba has always been my happy place/ release so I’d love to keep it up in pregnancy. Plus the idea of sharing my favorite thing with baby seems even more special xx

Zumba is just dancing/cardio. I don't see the issue in dancing lol you don't even have to do it full out to even enjoy it

I would check with your doctor but mine cleared me for all activity. There used to be a 140 bpm rule but I think it’s been walked back. But I think it’s mostly just listen to your body and if maybe go a little less hard in class if that feels good.

I ran a half marathon at 24 weeks.. also was 25yr old during the pregnancy. Usually it’s ok to do what you were doing before, maybe at a slightly lesser intensity. I ran marathons before so half marathon during

My PT suggested the talk test during pregnancy. If you can carry out a conversation your HR isn’t too high for baby. I kept doing cardio and lifting until I was 37 weeks

Avatar

Honestly, I used to work out heavily too and now I walk and I do mobility workouts. They’ve helped a lot.

Zumba is perfect! Exercise to elevate the high fast rate is actually GOOD for pregnancy, improves placenta blood flow and helps both you and baby prepare for labor. It’s just recommended you don’t make yourself totally winded if not used to it.

Avatar

If your body is used to it pre pregnancy then you are safe to continue throughout! Just be sure to listen to your body, when you get tired you need to rest and ease back on intensity. And stay hydrated!

Avatar

The general rule of thumb is you can continue to do whatever you did pre pregnancy, given there is low risk of falling during the exercise. It’s actually very important to be active during your pregnancy. It is good for you and baby and helps with delivery :)

I danced Zumba up to my due date. If you were doing it before, it should be fine. Just mention it to your doctor. If I felt I needed to lower the intensity, I just didn't dance as hurt.

Honestly speaking, if we can bonk I don’t see why we can’t do other forms of exercise 🤣 sometimes that gets the heart running more than any other work out if you know what I mean!!

Hey what are your current symptoms?

I’m 37+5

I’m pretty mobile still but anything over a hour or 2 and I’m in discomfort

Getting up from a sitting position is hard

Some of baby’s movements now are bordering on painful especially around my crotch/pelvis

I’m exhausted very easily and nap every single day

Can basically only breathe out my mouth now and I’m snoring and dribbling 😂

Standing in one leg is very painful 😂

Some waves of pain/ tightening but I regular and mild

Low period type aches

And I feel like a fire breathing dragon with this acid reflux

My nose is growing 😂

My fingers swell slightly and go numbs in my sleep so that and constant toilet breaks keep me up ( checked swelling with MW and consultant and all normal, not a worry)

I also do not want to be social in person like I’d rather everyone just be my penpal atm lol

What are your symptoms?
