Nearly due - what to expect ?

I've got 2 1/2 weeks until I'm due. I'm due on the 9th of April. This is my first baby and I'm very nervous. It's suddenly hit me that this pregnancy has flown by and it's nearly time and he could come whenever he wants really.

But I wanted to know from other mums...what to expect...when to know I'm going to be in labour soon..what signs to watch out for...when do I go into hospital.

What are contractions going to feel like...my mam has described them as uncomfortable period pains that go on and off.

Baby can come any day now but don't be surprised if you make it well into the 41st week of pregnancy. That's common, especially for first time moms. It's so differnt for every woman. Labor can start as some cramping that will intensify and become more frequent. How far are you from the hospital? I really recommend taking an online labor and birth course. I recommend My Essential Birth. This will go over all of this information in great detail as well as give you and your partner coping and labor techniques.

I don’t want to scare you but you will know when you’re having contractions. People said the period thing to me, it’s not even close (for me). It felt like my insides were sort of being scraped/jolted with something really sharp 😬

My waters broke before I even felt any pain which were early contractions! Some women have a higher pain threshold and won’t feel initial contractions because of this. Definitely focus on your breathing and have a support system there with you whoever you choose 🫶🏻 just remember it is temporary pain which results in a lifetime of happiness with your baby 👶🏼

You will know when you're having contractions, it's 1000 times worse than period pains.
Don't be surprised if you are late and go 41 weeks pregnant. My first son was born 41+5

@Kate not far from the hospital luckily. About a ten minute drive away I think. 15 at most. Thank you

@Chelsea I appreciate the honesty 😅👌

@Nicole I'm not good with pain so I know it'll be very difficult for me. My partner hasn't been around babies before really, but he's excited. Hoping he'll be a good supporter through the experience x

excited to meet our little man, this pregnancy has flown too fast!

@Rebecca I hope I'm not late 😅😅

I love the honesty....I'll know what happening if it is hurting lots

Every pregnancy is different but defo think about it going past your due date as it’s just estimated,
The period comparison to contractions for me was useless, tbh it felt like someone was pouring hot led in my stomach, I was laying down on my side for the whole time, standing was a no go 😅
Just enjoy the rest of the time with bump, your body is made for this and no matter how you will deliver your baby, get whoever is with you to get as many photos/ videos of your labour, it will be a complete blur,
Good luck mumma 💖

Your midwife should tell you when to call the hospital

If your waters break (even if you didn't have contractions) you need to contact them

When your contractions start you need to time them. Once they're regular enough you need to contact them. I can't remember the frequency and tbh what I was told might be a little different as I labour quickly and they wanted me in hospital a lot sooner with my second (didn't get contractions initially with my first)

When you think you're in labour call the midwives and they'll tell you exactly what to do.
In my first labour I phoned 3 times before they told me to come into the hospital. They were really supportive and told me to take a bath, some paracetamol, and relax as much as possible!
I didn't need to make any decisions, they took that pressure off me!

I think you’ll surprise yourself with dealing with the pain as your adrenaline takes over! I was never around babies before as I was the youngest in my family growing up, but I am pregnant with my second and know that I could do everything to keep that baby safe and happy, once you become a parent it just happens naturally x

The best advice I wish someone would have told me before I went through 2 hours of pushing wrong is that when it’s time to push, push like you would a 💩 with all your might

Avatar

@Joy I've heard people say that you need to push like you're really constipated snd trying to get 💩out

Thank you x
Yes he'll be a Lincoln hospital born baby.

I was born in Scunthorpe.
Been in Lincoln 6 yrs at least now x I have heard better things about Lincoln hospital for births than Scunny.

All nervous but so excited for our little man ☺️

Had another antenatal appointment yesterday where they went through what number to call when I believe that I'm in Labour and that if my contractions are 10mins apart then it's time to go in.

Doesn't feel real half the time ...this pregancy has gone by way too fast 😅

Is this little red bit on my section scar normal? It’s not oozing anything, doesn’t hurt but it’s the only bit on my scar like it so just curious! (19 days PP)

Anyone else felt like this?

Hi, I’m 4 months postpartum, little one sleeps through the night and is formula fed, the last week I’ve felt extremely tired and very hungry! Just wondered if anyone else has felt this way/experienced this?

Pregnant with baby 2

Hi everyone! I gave birth via emergency c section 9 months ago as my baby boy was measuring big, he pooped inside so there was risk of him inhaling it and I wasn’t progressing past 3cm to have a natural birth and now I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant with my 2nd baby. I’m having a consultation on Tuesday to talk about birth options and to have any questions answered but I don’t know what to ask. I feel like it would be safer having a c section again but at the same time I don’t want a c section. Does anyone have any question ideas I could ask or any advice/stories of similar situations. Tia
