I really don’t know what to do anymore. Our 3.5 week old has been screaming in pain whenever she is awake since she was a few days old - bright red face, clenched fists, pulling knees up, lots of hiccuping, cries all day and all night, fighting sleep.
We put her on a colic formula 2 weeks ago on advice of HV and she also has infacol in every bottle but haven’t noticed a difference. We give her lots of burping and bicycle legs. Sometimes give her a dose of dentinox and have tried cranial osteopathy to no avail.
She brings up small amounts of milk every day/other day, so not sure if it’s reflux or silent reflux or an allergy/intolerance or just normal newborn behaviour.
Has anyone experienced something similar and can offer any advice? We are exhausted mentally and physically - I just want my baby to not be in pain!

Soy based formula helped me

How are you feeding your little one? Is she formula and if so how is the formula prepared? Xx

Have you checked for tongue tie?

Sounds like a silent reflux I had this with my baby as well as an allergy, thankfully she just outgrew it but the screaming lasted around 4/5 months

Sounds like some sort of allergy? We have similar and suspect cmpa - EBF so taking dairy and soy out of my diet to see if it helps. If it’s cmpa and formula fed, you’ll need a special prescribed formula 👍🏻

I had the same with my little one who is now 6 weeks. She is now on SMA Althera which is dairy free and prescribed, with colief to break down the lactose (they put her on lactose free milk before to see if that helped and the SMA has lactose in it). She is much more settled, we have the odd belly ache when she has trapped wind etc but so much better. Also sleeps 3-4 hour stints throughout the night too. We tried Gaviscon for suspected reflux but that constipates them and so it made her worse!

Try something else instead of infracol. As the orange flavouring can give reflux. We use gripe water now my lil is 1 month. You could try dentinox that’s suitable from birth. If you have a next to me that can change heights try having their head higher than their feet.

yes she’s on cow and gate colic formula. We use the prep machine and test with thermometer to make sure hot shot is well above 70

yes we were referred but she could stick her tongue out so said she didn’t have it x

which one do you use? 🥰❤️

did you try any treatment for it ❤️

I thought for an allergy they had to have rashes/diarrhoea etc xx

amazing, how long did it take for her the settle in to the SMA with Colief? Might try swapping out infacol for Colief and see if it helps x

amazing thank you, did you give gripe water/dentinox in the bottles? Xx

after the first couple of feeds she was a lot more settled, but within three or four days she was a different baby!
I would 100% recommend speaking to the GP about it and being firm with them as some do like to pass it off and will think ‘she’s just a baby that cries’ but you know best. The first 4 weeks of her being her were awful with how much pain she was in - now she is a dream! Xx

she had necoqte formula for the allergy, omeprazole for the gerd & lactalose to help with constipation.

I am so glad to hear your little one is better! We have been pushed off by HV/midwife as she doesn’t have allergy symptoms just the sore tummy so they said no point putting her on a dairy free milk! So frustrating x

my little one only had belly pain as symptoms but was the same as yours with red face, scrunched up in pain, fighting sleep & crying etc. I didn’t speak to my HV or midwife about it, just went straight to the GP. Other than that, she had no other symptoms so push for what you feel is right and best. The GP can advise you in what to try and if they don’t work then they’ll suggest formula!

We took our little babies to the drs and now they are on special milk. I've noticed a big difference so could be allergic to milk x

Go to the GP and push to be referred to a paediatrician. It could be something completely unrelated to milk and they’re the best people to tell you what’s up.
We recently discovered my little boy had pyloric stenosis - a thickening of the muscles around the opening from the stomach to small intestine. He had to have key hole surgery to fix it. We had 5 doctor appointments before we got referred. If we didn’t push we could still be where we were a few weeks ago. Speak to a specialist xx

we found that we were having this problem when using the prep machine as it was making her incredibly gassy. I know others who found this too. Try making the bottles up the old fashioned kettle way for a few days and see if that makes a difference. We saw a huge improvement so no longer use the prep machine and I make bottles using my own hot shot method with cooler boiled water x

Hey I got told by my LO’s doctor not to change the formula straight away as babies need to get used to formula. And to keep changing the formula can make it worst sometimes, as your baby will need to get used to another formula. I tried infacol when my baby was crying all day and night with the exact same symptoms as yours, I used it for about 2 days before it started to work and then she was back to normal. If not midwives say not to try this but doctors always say to try a tiny bit of cool boiled water every now and then, but only around 10mls as they can get full up on it. We also tried this and it helped.
Don’t give up with the tummie massage and the bicycle legs, best to keep going! Xx if it carries on for more than a couple of days I would take to GP they may prescribe a new milk which might be lactose free.

Sounds like it could be reflux, poor bubba. My little boy has suffered with it since birth and the only thing that has helped him is baby gaviscon. If you baby is still suffering after all the changes you’ve made, speak with your gp they can hopefully help. Hope your bubba feels better soon x

Experienced the same exactly. Infacol did nothing but finally saw GP who said could be reflux or milk allergy. He prescribed gaviscon- baby is instantly 50% better or more (not cured completely but way better). We also use colief drops at every feed x

yes I did/ do I tried giving directly but she just spat it out

Have you tried changing the formula to Kendamil? It seems to be highly recommended for babies who've been uncomfortable in between feeds. You don't have to shake it so no bubbles in the bottle. Not sure if it can be used in a prep machine (I don't have one so haven't looked it up)

I would say try prescribed formula too x
