Too much water surrounding twin?

Hi everyone! We had a scan today (25w) and twin 1 has more fluid than normal surrounding her (9.9% more than twin 2) Twin 2 had a normal amount of fluid. Has anyone else had this? I should’ve asked what it means but didn’t think to ask! Back next week to monitor. They’ve told me not to worry but genuinely curious what it could be!

I’m so glad you asked this I’m 30 weeks tomorrow with twins and I got told yesterday twin 2 has elevated level of amniotic fluid, midwife said 70 percent of cases it’s nothing to worry about I gave bloods as could be infection and I have to go for another scan Tuesday

It's going to be ok and just keep taking ur prenatal vitamins I have 2 year old twins boy and girl and just keep having them check everything well that how I am lol I have them check more than 1 time

@Natalie interesting! Do you mind me asking what types of twins you have? Mine are MCDA. We got referred back from foetal medicine to normal scans two weeks ago so it’s a bit frustrating! They didn’t ask for my bloods. Hopefully it’s nothing! X

@Rebecca mine are DCDA, I’m sure it’s nothing, the only things I found were it means the twin maybe won’t turn to go head down as they have extra room due to fluid so might mean a section but I’m having a section anyway and they worry about the gush of your waters causing the cord to come down first but the midwife said not to worry they will monitor and often it sorts itself out, consultants also said previously to me can be a lot of discrepancy’s with twins in measurements because we have so many scans and everyone measures slightly different so can throw things off so not to worry unless he says

@Natalie thanks, this is really helpful! Mine share a placenta so I think it’d almost stage 1 TTTS, hoping she stops being so greedy by the next scan 🥰

@Rebecca yes you have a lot more to contend with if their sharing a placenta but I’m sure will be fine they seem quite on the ball with watching twins, good luck 🫶🏻

I am so glad u asked as I just came back from a scan at 26 weeks and was told my twin 2 has more water I will have another scan next week. Msg of support much appreciated as so worried

Hey 👋🏽 MCDA mum here. My boys had TTTS and it was picked up as fluid discordance. Just make sure they are checking deepest pools and head/heart dopplers. MFM are great at monitoring and acting accordingly. TTTS can stay at stage 1 but can rapidly progress, I’m not trying to freak you out or anything like that it’s just the reality of it. How many days until your next scan? X

@Heitch keeping fingers crossed for you! We had the opposite about 6 weeks ago, twin 2 had a gap in blood flow but she caught up and everything was fine and now she’s thriving! Xx

@Charlie yes we’ve been monitored really closely over the past 6 weeks as we had size discrepency with twin 2 not having enough fluid and luckily she’s caught up! Scan next Thursday so keeping fingers crossed 🥰🥰

Yes my mo/di twinnies had this for a bit and then it all evened out :)

I should add I was really stressed about it with TTTS but I feel that if they were really concerned they would have said something, have you come back in the next day, etc. They don’t mess around when it’s serious. BUT I always feel like if it is making you nervous, call your doc and talk it out with them and I think that will help :) I think my twin had more fluid for a few weeks but like yours my other twin had a normal amount and then it all evened out :)
