Thought I’d share my little bit of drama whilst I’m lay in bed wide awake.
I’m 32+5 today for context but on Thursday I woke up to my underwear being wet. The days messing up to it, I had noticed I’d been leaking but sometimes it would smell like urine so assumed pressure on my bladder was causing it 😬
I went to the loo and noticed I had a thin but sticky discharge laced with tiny bits of blood. I went to work and wore a pad. The pad was by no means soaking but was definitely not dry either. I called triage and was asked to come in where they put me on the monitor as my movement have been terrible since 30 weeks.
Baby seemed happy and midwife was sure I’d go home after my quick swab. 5 mins later and she looks just as surprised as us that my waters had broken. I panicked…and cried…but she assured it doesn’t mean Labour is imminent. I wasn’t aware that baby can survive on small amounts of amniotic fluid.
I was taken to the ward to stay over night as Labour is likely to occur 72 hours after waters breaking. A number of women won’t Labour and baby can hang on for some time.
I was regularly monitored with my pulse, blood pressure, babies heart beat and temp. I had a scan the following day confirming I had only 2.5cm on fluid left but again baby was ok 👌🏼
As the days have passed I’m at higher risk of infection and to add fuel to the fire I have group B strep - a bacteria many women carry in their vagina but aren’t aware of. This can travel up and cause infection for the baby now his membrane sac is ruptured. It can causes issues like sepsis which terrifies me.
This issue also meant that if baby did not arrive naturally, that I would be induced. Instead of this being at 37 weeks when he was classed as fully cooked, I was being brought earlier at 34 weeks 😔
My induction has been booked for 15th April and he will be born around 4-5lbs and taken off to SCBU to make sure he is ok. It’s now 72 hours since my waters went and hoping baby will go natural before the 15th as I don’t wish for induction. But I thought I’d share for anyone unsure about their waters going or what may happen.
Good luck ladies ❤️

thanks Briday, I haven’t been out of there 😂 xx

Good luck xx

Must be so stressful but that’s good that they find our about strep B you can both be on antibiotics and baby will be absolutely fine! Thanks for sharing and I am sure everything will go well! You are now on close monitoring

thanks lovely xx

thanks Anna, I know. I was swabbed really early as I thought I had BV but came back that I had that! I feel well looked after either way xx

My waters went last Sunday at 35+2. I ended up having sepsis which I knew nothing about until it was decided at 9.30 Monday morning that an emergency c section was needed when I was 9cm dilated. I’d passed the infection on to my little one. Thankfully he’s now clear of infection, his breathing issues have resolved and he’s now being fed milk. He’s still in Nicu but getting stronger every hour and one step closer to coming home. Feel free to message me if you have any questions x

aw wow Kirsty that’s terrifying. I’ve been doing my temp and they did my obs constantly and I seem okay for now. Did you have symptoms of sepsis? What should I look out for?
So glad little one is on the mend ❤️🩹
Xx

I didn’t have any symptoms no. But thinking about it now on Saturday I slept most of the day but just put it down to usual pregnancy fatigue and not sleeping of a night. I was absolutely fine on Sunday all day until my waters starting trickling at 1945. By the time I got to hospital at 8 and checked at 10 I was already 2cm dilated. The pushed antibiotics through a drip for sepsis at 9 Monday morning and my temperature and heart rate spiked. Baby’s also spiked and wasn’t coming back down so ended in emergency section. I would say keep an eye on your temperature, any unusual patterns of sleeping and if you have a gut feeling something isn’t right get checked over. If I’ve learnt anything over the last few days it’s that your instinct is never wrong. Especially when it comes to our little ones x

All the best, sounds like you’re in the best place possible & receiving great care! ❤️

Bless you that sounds so stressful! Wishing you the best of luck and sending love xx

Wow Abbie what a journey so far!! Hope you're doing ok, and fingers crossed everything goes as smoothly as it possibly can from here! Xx
