Birth plan ???

I wanted to get peoples opinions on taking a handwritten birth plan to hospital with them? I don’t have access to a printer so if I was to type one up I would have to print it off at a library or somewhere. My midwife said as long as my handwriting is clear for anyone to be able to read and my plan is simple and to the point then it will be fine. However I’m unsure whether this is clear enough or is too long? What are peoples opinions? Is there anything on there that isn’t really necessary or any way to make it clearer/shorter?

Looks good to me! The books Expecting Better and The Positive Birth Book both have some helpful examples and yours looks very similar in terms of length and detail. And I found it easy to read! My own handwriting is illegible 😅

Looks good! Mine was pages long 😂 they can read through it while you get settled in the room. You could add about offering drugs eg I stated not to be offered any pain relief I would ask. You don’t need to put “if possible” but ot doesn’t matter this app, as well as very slow and jump really. Your very clear and which is the main thing x

Maybe have one for c section should it arise and and induction methods they may offer, also episiotomy if you want one or would rather avoid

Definitely include some preferences on things you might not want to happen like forceps, ventouse, episiotomy, c-section as trying to understand and make those decisions in the moment will be stressful.

Otherwise I'd say it's clear enough. Definitely don't think of it as a plan though - it's just preferences. Babies are the ones in control here really, not us.

Perfect! ❤️

I had a handwritten birth plan 😊

Really well written. I would also add re episiotomy and what you want/don't want after the birth. Example I don't want the baby to be taken away under no but emergency circumstance, they can do all checks and caring in the room with me or my husband has to be present if I am not conscious. Child has always right for the presence of their legal guardian.

I had a handwritten one and once the midwife said it was ok I said I’ll type it up and print it out and she said don’t bother and just stuck it straight in my notes!

The only thing other to consider in advance is should anything happen to baby, whether you want your partner to go with the baby or stay with you, to avoid them feeling conflicted in the moment. Obviously unlikely and hope it doesn’t happen but worth thinking about in advance just in case

I wrote a birth plan and then ended up with an unexpected induction then very unexpected emergency csection, so maybe writing birth plans for all possible scenarios might help? I wish I had considered induction/csection preferences as my birth plan ended up being useless in the end!

I think yours is simple and clear. Mine is like 4 pages that I have to crunch down

The birthing pool may need to be sorted before hand so unless you have done so, contact wherever you’re giving birth and request that asap!

I would add in case of emergency like c section or if youre happy with an episiotomy, and anasthetics if something was to go wrong
