The sonographer picked up that I have a succenturiate placenta on the 20 week scan. The main placenta is anterior but the lobe is posterior which would explain why it’s taken a while to feel movements compared to my first pregnancy. Apparently it’s relatively abnormal and I will need regular growth scans as baby can be impacted by additional mass in my uterus. Also, it can pose a higher risk of haemorrhaging during delivery.

I had this in my last pregnancy. From what I understand it's pretty unusual. My placenta was low lying also so it caused additional issues and in the end I had a planned c section as I was unable to go into labour. The c section was actually a really calm and relaxed experience for me. Maybe it depends where your placenta is lying. Fingers crossed it doesn't cause you any issues, I had no issues with the baby at all. It's good they're doing extra checks too. If you have any questions about it feel free to send me a message 😊
that’s good to know baby was OK in the end 🙏🏽 I panicked a little when they said I would need regular growth scans. If you don’t mind me asking, did you make it to full term? I’m going for an elective section again anyway as my last pregnancy wasn’t the greatest and this has just solidified that decision 🤦🏽♀️😂

That's understandable, i remember feeling the same and I'm debating an elective section too for the same reasons. But yeah she was fine and grew perfectly and the placenta did its job. I didn't go full term I had her at 34 weeks and 6 days. However, I don't think that fully related to the succenturiate lobe and more to do with another condition I had called vasa praevia. My consultant seemed genuinely fascinated with the lobe more than worried 😂. x
oh my goodness! Sounds like you had a difficult last trimester! It’s good to know that your little girl is OK though 🤞🏽did you get diagnosed with vasa praevia at the 20 week scan too?
My LO was delivered at 37 weeks and ended up NICU for a week when he was born. Really hoped to avoid that this time 🤦🏽♀️

Hi, I have just had this picked up on a scan today (went in for RFM but all is fine) but they found this. I’m 33+4 and have a midwife appt on Monday. Wondering what I should ask or push for? I’ve had a low risk pregnancy up to this.

I too was told I have an acessory lobe at my 20 week scan. My GP and Midwife just said it's nothing to worry about. I have an appointment with the Drs at the hospital next week. Will hopefully get more information
