How do you substitute lost wages on mat leave

I worked full time up until 3 weeks before birth. Mat pay has been ok but I am aware that in a week or 2 it is going to drop significantly. Does anyone have any money making tips to do on the side that dont cost the earth to do? I have seen the paid reviews but it didnt give me much to review so I never bothered with it. I have tried Avon but I didnt have many customers so never made anything

vinted? i sell all my baby clothes that don’t fit my babs anymore, it’s not amazing money but depending on what you can you can get a fair bit x

When my little one grows out of his clothes that is definately 1 thing I was going to do :)

Would you not qualify for UC? You’ll also get child benefit which is just under a 100 a month

Yeah I worked it out and between uc and child benefit we would only get an extra £90 per month :( my other half earns more than me in our jobs but we struggle both working because all the bills are so high :(

Did you work out the UC based on your wage dropping to statutory? It would depend on wages of your other half but some find that once wages drop you’re entitled to a little bit more. I was entitled when my wage dropped but I am a single mum so it was only based on my wage. I also do a lot on Vinted - baby stuff sells well. So I put up all of one size and then as that sells I just buy the next sizes up on Vinted

I'm not sure what you can do that isn't considered working so would affect the maternity pay. Try universal credit.

I saved up before I went off

I’m worried about this too. Part of my mat leave will be less than half my normal pay, I think I will have to go back to work early. I have a photography side business but you’re not meant to work while getting mat leave so I’m worried about trying to get clients during this period. I also have an Etsy shop that I might pick up again but it takes a lot of mental energy and doesn’t bring in much money.

Ellen that's what I thought. I didnt realise that it was such a drop :( i have tried to make my crafting into a business the last few years buy it never took off. Etsy takes so much from you it's not worth doing, same with EBAY. May have to try facebook market place as that is free

My partner has just started a new business that helps people to earn an extra income. It works around you and you can choose how much or little you want to put in. Feel free to message me for more info and to explore if it's something you would be interested in 😁

Id also explore any additional expenses you may be able to reduce, call the companies looking for better deals, retention offers, coupons, shop in bulk, etc. Sometimes Im able to upsell items I purchase from auctions for a profit as well :)

Hey, I have a few online businesses/side hustles that have enabled me to make multiple incomes since having my first son 3 years ago and I’ve recently had another boy in January. Grateful that I don’t have to go back to a traditional job so let me know if you’d like to hear more x

Hey, you can earn money in a self employed job whilst on Mat leave. So you can do your photography business

If you are on Facebook look at Fun Money club. Loads of ideas on there from taking surveys, focus groups, playing games, walking apps, cashback apps etc. Not going to make hundreds but I regularly cash out points in the various apps for Amazon vouchers etc. Little effort, especially the passive points for walking apps

@CiCi in Australia you’re not allowed to earn money while on paid maternity leave
