First time mum

Hello, I’m a first time mum at 40 years old. I’m 35 weeks pregnant and doctor has said because of my blood pressure they will likely induce at 37 weeks. I really don’t want an induction so looking at a planned C section. Looking for some knowledge / advice on this so I can be as positive as possible. I’m so scared . Thank you x

I had a planned C-section and it was such an amazing experience. Everyone was so lovely, I had my own music playing and it was just really relaxed!

I’ve had 2 planned sections and they’ve both been wonderful :) not stressful , very calm, everyone was lovely & kept me informed of everything going on.. they even removed a mole that was on my scar line for me 🤣 Recovery was really good too.. just take it steady those first few days but you’ll be fine! ☺️ congrats and good luck!

I had an elective csection and I was terrified too but it was a really positive experience. 😌 the staff were amazing and it went really well. Be prepared for recovery to take a while and get lots of support whilst you're healing. Best of luck with it all. X xx

My c section was an amazing experience. I felt so calm and so well looked after. Afterwords I had quite a heavy feeling in my pelvis as I healed up but it was fine and completely manageable. The team at Lincoln hospital were amazing 💕

I had an elective c-section and was amazing. In 15 minutes since the beginning of the procedure the baby was in my arms. I had minimal blood loss and everyone informed me what was going on during the section. The recovery after that was a bit hard but I had the support of my husband and he helped me with everything. In my advice make sure to have enough support the first 2-3 weeks after the section, other than that is a very positive experience

Hi Laura, I’m so sorry you’re scared! I am too, as I haven’t had one but will likely have to deliver by C section due to having surgery on my cervix. I just wanted to tell you something a friend told me, because it helped me. They said “Bodies are like cars. They’re well understood and maintained by the mechanics at the hospital. To you, this is a huge surgery that you will likely have once. To them, this is a routine oil change and they do this kind of thing all day every day”. It helps me to remember that our bodies are well understood and that this is a surgery that’s been happening successfully for 250 years. You are going to be so overjoyed when you feel your baby in your arms. I hope focusing on that brings you comfort. Maybe you could even count down the minutes with your partner to help distract you 🥰 Deep breaths. You’re in the safest hands. X

Our elective c section was so calm would definitely recommend! There’s also a fab account called csectionuk on instagram run by a midwife who has loads of info around c sections and what to expect etc x

I’ve got to have a plannned c section in 4-5 weeks so following

I had an emergency c section and the thought scared me aswell, I really didn’t want to go down that path, but I always said whatever is going to be best for bub and he gets here healthy. Honestly the c section was the best! The staff were incredible, he was in my arms in 10mins and I was back together in another 10mins. After my horrible experience with induction and labour before hand, I would definitely elect for a c section next time no problems at all! And I’ve heard that it’s a lot nicer of an experience You got this 💪

If the blood pressure is being controlled, you could ask them to monitor you and see if you go naturally, but I've heard elective sections are a good experience x

Thank you all so much. Your responses have really helped me feel better ❤️

@Holly love this xxx

I had 1 induction which lead to an emergency c section and a planned section for my 2nd baby. Sections are hard but a planned section is so much better They let us choose music and they took pictures of my baby coming into the world. Honestly the experience was amazing. I have healed really well with both sections (1st section I was up and about within 5 days and walking around the park —— 2nd section took longer to heal) I knew this time what I needed to help me recover and to make things easier which really helps. So any advice please just drop me a message x

I had a planned section and absolutely loved it! It was so calm and a really positive birth experience. I had a natural with my first and was induced and they were worlds apart, my first was very traumatic. I would opt for a section every time if I had anymore! Xx

I had a planned c section for the exact same reason you are.. and it went amazing! I wouldn’t change anything..

@Holly our midwife said this to me! It’s major surgery for us but at the same time the docs do the surgery day in day out! Xx

I’m 42 and has my 1st baby by planned section 13 weeks ago. They would have induced me at 39+4 and to be honest from talking to friends who had been induced then had to have emergency c section they ALL told me to go for planned c and they would NEVER be induced again. My planned c was far easier than I thought it would be and I was driving after 2 weeks . I am very happy with my decision!

@Jo thank you, I feel this has to be my option xx
