So, i haven't had a medical ultrasound since my anatomy scan. I am 32 weeks. I should be having scans at every appointment now right? Also, when do they start doing exams? I haven't had a full body exam since my first appointment. I just want to make sure everything that is happening is normal, but I feel like its getting time to be making sure im not dilating early or anything

I’m not really sure how it is for everyone but I had my first anatomy scan at 20 weeks and have my next one at 32weeks. Maybe you should ask your ob what’s going to happen from here on out since it’s gettn closer to that time

You have one at 20 then 32 they try not to give too many ultrasounds , I know they do check heart beat every appointment though
I've only had the initial one to confirm pregnancy, anatomy scan at 20 weeks and nothing else. They do check his heartbeat every time, and my fundal length but that's it

Yeah they most likely give you a growth scan at 32 and if u need another they will have u come back if not the 32 will be the last one , my baby is already 4 pound head down so they are alitttle concerned so they have me coming back at 36 to make sure she’s not coming too early

how many weeks are you now ? I hope she doesn’t stay like that bc that mean you’ll have a breech birth. Hope she turns before labor

32 weeks

Sounds normal to me. With my OB with my first baby(Feb 2023), I had my initial to confirm and then my anatomy and no other scans besides the 3d one where you go to a business that specializes in baby 3d ultrasounds. And I also didn't get cervical checks till after 35w because you don't want to put unnecessary bacteria up there. Even then the cervical checks are not a requirement, but you can ask for them(and deny them if they ask you). I know for this baby, I have a new OB and hospital and they do another scan at 36w to see if baby is head down and there are no other complications.
Pretty sure the only reason to be getting an ultrasound/Sonogram every week is if you are high risk.

breech is when legs and bottom are coming first! Head down wouldn’t be breech!!
Also to answer original question posted. I really think it just depends on the doctor some seem to do more scans than others! I’m 34 and I’ve had the initial scan and 20 week anatomy scan.

you’re absolutely right! Thanks for the correction pregnancy brain is real 🤣😂

facts 😂 I just didn’t want anyone to freak out when they read that lol that’s my biggest concern right now is I want to try vaginal before C-section cuz of how soon I’ll have to go back to work 😭😭

Second that it depends on your doctor. I've had additional scans because of GD with pregnancy but I wouldn't have if I didn't. A friend of mine only had two her whole pregnancy (confirmation and anatomy) while another friend got one at every appointment 🤷♀️

I had three with my last pregnancy: initial, anatomy at 20, and positioning at 36. My OB for this pregnancy did positioning at 32 and he’s breech so I will have them every appointment until he flips. That still only totals to like 5 though. Every OB is different bc of what insurance covers.

If your high risk or need placenta scans or growth scans you get more. But usually 12 weeks then 20 weeks and that’s all, my first two pregnancies I had 12 + 20 week. With this one I started off with low lying placenta so I had extras and needed 2 growth scans also

My doctor only does the confirmation scan and the 20 week anatomy scan. If I go over 40 weeks they will start doing ultrasounds to check amniotic fluid levels but not before then unless there are signs of something going wrong. I don't start getting pelvic exams until 36 weeks.

Less ultrasounds means you have an unremarkable pregnancy ie healthy and normal, nothing of note that is worrisome. I am considered high risk because of age and velamentous cord insertion (VCI) discovered at the 20 wk anatomy scan so they’re having me do extra scans every 4weeks from 28 weeks on as VCI could sometimes cause fetal growth restriction or be dangerous for labor.
I’d take it as a good sign you haven’t needed more! If everything was good at 20, and heartbeat and fundal height have been on track baby is growing well! 🙏🏽🙌🏽

I’m 31 weeks and finally get another ultrasound tomorrow but haven’t had one since 21 weeks even with Gestational diabetes. I thought I was supposed to be having more honestly.

My first I had ultrasounds once a month until I was in my 3rd trimester then it was every 2 weeks. But that’s only because I was dealing with fibroids and they wanted to make sure they weren’t interfering with my daughter’s growth.
This pregnancy I’ve only had the initial ultrasound and the first anatomy scan. My next is at 32weeks. I’ve only had 1 maybe 2 cervical checks this entire pregnancy(which I’m completely fine with). I had too many to count for with my first.
I honestly think it depends on the doctor and your specific health circumstances

If low risk, you don't get many ultrasounds about 2, sometimes 3. Depending on if the ob/midwife wants to check the position, baby is in. High risk, you get a lot more. Can be super anonny at times.
Cervical checks are normally about 35 weeks I think but they aren't required. You can say no if you don't want to be checked.

My baby is small so I have ultrasounds once a week now
