My 5 week old has been awake since 8:30 this morning and it’s now 5pm with a short nap of around 30 mins earlier this morning. Is this normal? I think he’s over tired as he’s been cranky and twisty and wanting to be on me and my partner most of the day. Trying to get him to nap but not sure how it can be forced if he doesn’t want to?

My little girl is/was the same. She’s 8 weeks old currently and woke at 6:50 this morning. She fell asleep at 5pm finally but she gets extremely cranky. I personally think she can be over stimulated and have FOMO
this is the first day he’s been like this, normally he’s pretty good with naps but it seems no matter what we do he just won’t drift off! Hoping this means he might be coming to realise night and day maybe or at the very least a good nights sleep tonight 🥲

It’s not normal in the sense of baby not sleeping during the day as they still need around 14-18 hours of sleep per day. However it is normal for babies to get over tired and over stimulated easily and seem to be fighting their naps then because they physically have a really hard time getting to sleep once they’re really over tired. While you can’t force a baby to sleep I would say just go through your list of things to try to support baby to get to sleep (ex: rocking, bouncing, singing, dark room, white noise, eating, pacifier, bath, car ride, 5 S’s)

My baby got like this at around 6 weeks old - I remember a noticeable difference as before that he just drifted off to sleep whenever he needed. After that I had to pay careful attention to tired cues and wake windows to make sure I got him down to sleep before he got overtired.
