I am. Have been for about 4yrs. Previously was a band 6 in stroke. Same as nadine really, lots of research, talk about previous experience and said I was willing to do any training needed. Feel free to message if you need anything else x
@Nadine thanks for replying. Thats so inspiring 😍 do you mind sharing what experiences/skills they are keen on without practice experience?
I am but went into it straight from qualifying, the best way to get into GP is through the surgies themselves. We have people who came from hospitals and almost expect new hires to be from hospitals! Email practices and talk about transferable skills but they know theyll be providing training and generally don't mind. One of the main things in general practice is staff retention so talk about your plans to stay and get training and what you can offer them, each skill is money for the practice so the more you can offer or say you want to be able to offer the more desirable you are :)
I have just been offered a job at GPN with no previous experience. I emailed some local practices and one of them was actually looking for someone. I submitted my CV and covering letter and then got an interview. I used a lot of my previous experience as a stepping stone. I also did a lot of research into the role and asked questions during the interview 😃. It's definitely worth emailing some practices as they may not be advertising online.
