Naptime

Does anyone have any advice on how to get my baby to take longer naps? She really seems to struggle to nap for longer than 20-30 minutes and gets so fussy very fast during her next wake window.

How old is she?

@Dee she is almost 4 months

Yes and no, My baby is 7 months currently and we constantly struggled with 20 min nap issue. I think 9/10 issue is: Wrong awake window, (my baby would stay up for soooo long cuz my first would sleep anytime, and he would need help to start sleep, we were inadvertently making him severely overtired when he was 1-4 months) If wake window too long: overtired fussy baby who sleeps only 20-30 minutes, then is still fussy afterwards. Hard and takes a long time to get to sleep. Too short: not tired enough to sleep more than one sleep cycle (30-50 min in my baby at least for one cycle) and they may be harder to get to sleep since they aren’t very tired. It takes trial and error to find the sweet sport of not too tired but tired enough to stay asleep when they rouse in between sleep cycles. From what you say it seems like it’s too long awake window. And maybe add a short 5-10 min routine to do before nap to let baby know it’s about to be nap time, they do better when they can 1/2

When they can expect “diaper change, short book, or song, bed” instead of “hey I’m going to just put you in bed now, good luck” Gonna add the awake window: sleep need chart I use. It’s just a basic starting point, you can always adjust to your baby needs if you notice other things. Feel free to PM me, I’ve had sleep training for my baby (not cry it out) and can answer basic questions and try to help.

Contact naps! My boy sleeps 2-3 naps in the carrier for 1-2 hours Also have you tried the huckleberry app? I know it doesn’t work for everyone but if it works, boy oh boy it’s magic! The app offers you the sweet spot time to put baby down for a nap. For us it works so well it’s scary!
