helppp!

i’ve been trying to start feeding my baby solids for months now. She’s breast-fed and no matter what I do she doesn’t want to take the spoon in her mouth. Any tips?

How old is your baby? Can you just let her self feed with her hands?

Try finger foods instead?

Try baby led weaning hun. She may still not eat much, but its all about exploring n learning through play until 1 when they start eating properly x

@Casey 7 months and sometimes i do

@Sophie what first foods did you use? she has no teeth yet

@Hally what first foods did you use? she has no teeth yet

Avocado! It's easy to mash between gums, and high fat, so it's good for developing brains. Cut into strips, less than finger width. Easy to grasp and mash into the mouth. Baby will make a mess, but it's about practice and getting a taste for the food. Also sweet potato, banana (again, cut into strips), roasted broccoli or cauliflower (florets that are big enough that they can't get in the mouth), poached apples or pears, and although they are potential allergens, plain full-fat yogurt and strips of fried egg. Just monitor for reactions and introduce one food per day. Check amazon for lists of baby-led weaning first 100 foods. Lots of choices!

@Melissa THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Some babies just don’t want to be spoonfed! I would download the Solid Starts app and follow their program for baby led weaning. They don’t really eat much until 10-12 months from my experience. Breastmilk (or formula) should be their number one source of nutrition til then so don’t stress. If the food is soft enough to mush between your fingers then they don’t need teeth to eat it

Welcome! Also, amazon will have baby-led weaning spoons that you can try. They're good for teething babies, and food sticks to them more easily than a traditional spoon. Let baby try to feed themselves - you may have to coach them, but they will develop the skill much better than if you feed them always. Just pre-load the spoon for them and help them get it into the mouth, eventually they should figure it out. 😄

Came here to say exactly what Melissa did! Those were great for mine too. There’s an app called Solid Starts and it shows you how to prepare food according to age (the ways Melissa was mentioning). Baby led weaning is definitely a personal choice but we had success with it. Just remember they don’t eat a lot at first, and they’re still getting their nutrition mostly from breast milk or formula. Every bite she tries tho is a great step for her!

She's only 7 months? Don't worry about it too much - food before 1 is just for fun. Let her hold bits of food (bananas, toast, avocado, carrot, brocoli etc.) And don't worry too much about how much she actually eats. Weaning is only recommended FROM 6 months so it's not like they need to suddenly have loads at that age 😊

My son was ebf teeth didn’t come til after he turned 1 … we would blend mangoes and freeze it a little make him smoothies and avocado and bananas! Most fruits we just made thick smoothies and let him experiment from there … he was weaned at 20 months but! I lessened his access to breastmilk when he was hungry and presented him with food not all meals just started with lunch time feedings and went from there

Greek yogurt!

My Lo is nearly 8months and with a few exceptions ie honey- none before 1, being mindful of the common allergens and providing it is adapted appropriately, he has everything we have! For breakfast he had crumpets and fruit, dinner was macaroni cheese and asparagus speers! There’s a Facebook group called Weaning the BLW way which offered lots if advice- they take their guidance from WHO!
