Failed NST test.

My babyboy failed his 2nd nst test today (32 weeks) and we had to have an ultrasound, a 45 minute long one! That was so painful the nurse was pushing so hard on my stomach and he didn't move until the last minute. I was alone and terrified. She said she saw him move but I didn't feel it at all. She told me I'm good to go home. His kicks have been few and far between today I'm so worried but the nurse said he was fine. I'm still getting ten kicks every 2 hours but I normally get alot more. They're normally hard kicks or movemts like they make my stomach move. Today's have been soft or light and I havent seen my stomach move once. Any mommies out there experience this??

I had things change a lot day to day around 32-33 weeks. Days of heavy kicks then nothing for two days then more and back and forth. Get checked but try not to worry too much

What is the nst test? My 32 week appointment is Monday.

NST is Non Stress Test

If you’re worried about it, I would go to labor and delivery and have them check you a second time just to be safe. I have to do it multiple times during both of my pregnancy

Anytime his movements aren’t the usual checked out! Better to be safe. They do move less when their head down and cramped for space. I’m also 32 weeks an have weekly ultrasounds that are similar to nst but they watch him to monitor. We are so close to meeting our babies so hang in there .

So everything might be fine , I had NSTs with my first and failed one but no NSTs with this pregnancy - but I do have big movement days and little movement days. But I say go with your gut, if you have a trick that always makes him move see if it works and go from there. What’s the reason for your NST test ? Is it a reason that could affect you feeling movement that is happening ?

@Allison non stress test I have to get 2 a week due to being high risk

@Xhelle I'm honestly thinking about it but my on said if he gives me ten movements every 2 hours not to worry.

Please relax! My daughter is 3 months old and failed every NST. 2 or 3 hospital monitoring sessions and tons of pressure to deliver at 37 weeks. I prayed, I counted my 10 kicks and I tried my best to relax. I chose to stick it out and I delivered her at exactly 39 weeks. She's out here kicking up a storm. You will be fine.

@Autum yeah I've been a few times and thankfully nothing has been several.

@Candace he is heads down as well and growth restricted. All Dr's I've been to are shocked he moves as much as he normally does because he's small.

Thank you everyone I'm probably headed to l&d tonight. Hopefully I can get ahold of the father so I'm not alone

I do sometimes he’s definitely a character so what they tell me to do is eat a good meal and drink cold water and lay on your left and count 10 kicks within 2 hours if he does it within 2 hours he’s okay

@Brianne I have chronic and severe hypertension. And I have a heart condition. He's fetally growth restricted. So the stress test are to monitor him because of those issues.

@Jen M. Thank you for the reassuring words!

So the ultrasound being 45 minutes after a failed nst is pretty normal. Unless your baby suddenly becomes very active and they get what they need right away. However, I believe they need to see him move more times than just one so I would hope she seen everything she needed to see before sending you home. If his heart rate was good the whole time then that’s a great sign!. If you believe that this nurse was more interested in being done with the ultrasound than she was with the true well being of baby than I would call your doctor or go up to labor and delivery and have one more. Eat a healthy snack before you go and drink water to try and get baby moving. I did experience this yes; my first had NST every week. I ended up having an emergency c section (5 days early) because he failed it in terms of heart rate and my contractions showing he was in distress. I think if he was actually in distress his heart rate would reflect that!

@Cassie she said his heart rate was normal but it didn't Jump high at all. But it jumped high when they did thr ultrasound. The movement seemed to be the main issue but since I posted literally an hour ago he's been kicking pretty good. I feel like he was trying to make me worry a little.

My daughter literally failed EVERY NST from week 30 on. She never moved enough, no meals or snacks or drinks ever worked. I was sent to L&D multiple times. After the first 2 times I refused because i was exhausted. She would always move normally for me but not enough for them. Trust your gut and stick to YOUR version of normal for his movements. Doctors can suggest and say alot, but you can and should always follow what you know to be true to your body and your baby. I had to sign a few AMAs

@Shelly I am so glad to hear that! The same thing happened to me for the nst ultrasound where we had to stay the whole 45 minutes and they were very close to sending me to labor and delivery but he passed in the past minute with my last pregnancy. It definitely racks the nerves! I’m sure he is fine but don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself! If you need to check make them check! These babies play games lol.

@Cassie I swear he's trying to make me worry, but I'll take all the worry for my little trouble maker to be okay.

@Shelly ah I see. I asked because with my first there was excess amniotic fluid so I didn’t always feel him , looks like there’s other similar stories here though !

@Shelly the same thing is currently happening to me
