Sikh naming ceremony

Hi mamas, is anyone on here Sikh and could tell me if there are any ways around picking the first letter during the naming the babies? My partner’s family is Sikh, both of us fell in love with a name for our girl but aren’t sure if we will be able to use it due to the naming ceremony. I would love to skip that part and just give her a name that we picked and isnt “forced” but I don’t want to seem disrespectful.

Hopefully a Sikh female can help! But Just had this convo w my partner! Guess will be more tough if it’s his value in choosing one. My partner is Sikh. I spoke my belief and that’s all we can do and then decide together in the end. Think his mom used picking as a middle name letter! 🙏🏻

Hi there..sikh here. No, it is not imperative to partake in the ceremony. Both my girls were named according to names we personally liked. Some friends/relatives have chosen names according to the ceremony and other have not. It all boils down to the family/parents and what they want. So as long as you and your partner are on the same page then it's all that matters! Good luck!
