Talk with the baby's Dr. They will help you with that. What I did was 3 meals a day to start and nursed in between meals or you can start with just once a day and add meals as the baby gets used to it. I started giving my son breakfast after his first bottle and nap. He's 8 months old now and he eats a bottle just for naps or if he's too tired or fussy to eat

You always want to feed milk 30-1hr before meals. Milk is still main source at that age. We started with one meal a day until baby was about 8 months. Solid start app will help you know how to cut the food appropriately for the age!

Solid starts website and app are a great resource to start with and will answer most of your questions. Until 1yo milk is the main source of calories so this should not change until he is 1yo. Start slowly maybe with breakfast, I found it to be the easiest, and then gradually add a second then Third meal. Around 11 months (or before if you're ready) add morning and afternoon snacks, though his food intake should never impact his milk intake. At first they suggest you feed milk and then solid food after milk. Don't worry if he doesn't eat much, play with the food, take it in then spit it out, throw it on the floor etc, this is all normal and wanted. Playing and spitting is how they learn food. Enjoy, this was one of our favourite times watching her discovering all the different textures, taste, smell etc

Buy “how to wean your baby” or the purple “Ella’s Kitchen” book, it explains everything simply and gives you a guide- you’ll probably get overwhelmed with what everyone else is doing on here! X

Our pediatrician said: 4 months - can start solids (good head/neck control/ can sit in high chair. Milk/formula is primary food source. 6 months - baby is up to one meal a day. Milk/formula is primary food source 9 months - baby can be up to two meals a day. Milk/formula is primary source of food. 12 months - baby can be up to three meals a day and started to wean off milk/formula but doesn’t have to. Again, I am no doctor but this is the information I received from our son’s pediatrician. There’s no hard fast rules. Just being smart safe and intuitive. Happy weaning!

A lot of pediatricians are not up to date on current information (which is stupid, they should be more diligent but unfortunately they’re not) so be careful starting early like some have suggested. One of the signs of readiness for solids IS reaching the age of 6 months and that should not be ignored because that’s when their tummy is fully developed to handle solids. A pediatrician is not going to know how developed a baby’s tummy is by just looking at them which is why I find it wreckless and stupid for a pediatrician to even suggest starting early. I’d downloading the Solid Starts app. It’ll give you all types of different foods to try and how to cut them in age appropriate ways and you’ll be able to track what baby has tried and any reactions they may have had. If you pay the $10 subscription, which is for a whole year and I highly recommend, it’ll give you all kinds of cool recipes to try for your LO and even has recipes that make big enough batches for the whole family to eat.

@Lauren second this ! I have seen so many babies starting food at 4 months and I find it so alarming. There are studies on the fact that this could result in later life eating disorders, gut health issues, obesity and other health issues, not to mention the issues that can arise now with a lesser milk intake, bigger constipation issues, too much weight gain too fast too soon. It's only 2 months, you may as well wait to make sure baby's guts are fully ready for solid food.

@Lauren i for sure am waiting till he’s 6 months even tho his pediatrician said 5.5 months but i figure i’ll just wait until 6 months! i downloaded the solid starts app and plan on paying for it to help guide me through introducing his first foods!! thank you so much!
