Induction and formula

Hi! My induction was awful, because of the size of my bub so I won't give you that story. But a friends induction was amazing. She was induced, had the drip and nine hours later birthed a healthy baby without pain meds.

Not having colostrum doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll need formula, all the colostrum I provided to the hospital ended up being thrown out as we didn’t need it and my friend who gave birth a few days after me was able to breastfeed easily having never been able to get colostrum while pregnant Don’t stress about it too much it’s not a great indicator of your milk supply

You must be excited to meet Bub 🩷 don’t stress about not having colostrum, I didn’t and I had a c section delivery (which tends to mean your milk comes in later) but I was able to breastfeed and the nurses helped me to get colostrum going. We had some backup formula at home just incase but haven’t needed it 5 months in, I’ve heard the adaptamil sensitive is good! All the best x

You don't need to take formula for just in case. The hospital will provide it if necessary to give. I had colostrum for my first baby, and used a little bit because she was sleepy for the first few days, but I didn't even bother expressing any for my second baby. Trust that your body knows what to do

Go for week 39 if you are able to! The longer bub stays in the womb the better. Even just a few extra days makes a huge difference for long term physical and mental benefits!

i’ve given birth naturally and been induced and i prefer being induced by a mile - it was my first baby and he was out within 5 hours of having my waters broken and the drip. the first stage was like awful period pain, the second like a super intense exercise class. my second kids labour came on naturally and it took a couple of days and i was just exhausted by the time bub decided to show herself. if your milk is slow to come in i really recommend renting a hospital grade breast pump and just pump and pump away during the first few weeks. it will hurt so much, but i really think that’s what helped my supply the first time as i didn’t really do this the second time round and ive had to mix feed. whatever happens though, do what’s right and what works for you. breast feeding is hard and your health and mental health is as important as your baby’s. good luck!!

No, my bub was and still is, massive. He came out 4.5kg. An absolute chunk and the biggest bub in the hospital at the time. My labour ended with an emergency c section because he could not physically fit. At 11 months he is currently in 2 year old clothing, so it hasn't slowed down 😆

@Carolyn I am having an appointment on Monday to discuss my options but they were saying they dont want me to give birth after 39 weeks as its a risk. Ideally I would love to go into labour naturally and as close to due date as possible. Will see what they say 😊

Yeah I understand. That's why I said if you can, go for as late as you're safely able to 😊

i had the oxytocin drip, i felt nothing for ages, ordered ubereats, when it arrived my partner went to get it from the entrance and by the time he was back i was in full blown labour 😂 it does hurt as much as you’d expect, but because labour was pretty quick for me i didn’t have too much time to stop and think about it. there’s so much adrenaline too and that kinda gets you through it.
