Croydon University Hospital

Hello girls!
I’m giving birth in CUH in June and was wondering how was your experience? I’m hoping for a natural delivery, do they offer epidural just in case? Is your partner allowed to stay overnight with you? Do you have a private room or do you share?

Please I just need to hear few experiences 😬😬

Thank you 🙏🏻

Hey hun my experience at CUH was really good. Didn’t have any complaints really. They offered me an epidural. They go through the whole procedure with you also. My partner was allowed to stay with me however he had to sleep on a chair. Wasn’t the best for him x

Hi! I had a water birth at croydon last June so experience might be different but I have no complaints. Midwives and staff were really helpful and kind. I personally didn't want an epidural so wasn't offered but I knew I could still opt for that option. But I did go through 2 canisters of gas and air lol. My partner was allowed to stay over night but he had to sleep on a chair, so I forced him to go home so he could be totally refreshed to take me home the next day. Obviously I had my own room to give birth in but over night there was around 3 other women sharing the ward
Please feel free to pop me a message xx

I had my baby there end of 2022. The Labour room was nice and that’s the room you have private, but the room before and after you have the baby is shared and it was either freezing or boiling (but it was winter and apparently the heating was broken in both rooms lol), also a lot of people snoring so it was hard to sleep. But the partners get to stay and I had an epidural.

Overall it was a good experience, after I had the baby I got to stay in the Labour room for about 4 hours, not sure if that’s normal or they just didn’t need the room right away.

I had mine in December and it was a very positive experience! They are understaffed and you'll notice it on a weekend but all the staff was amazing with us. No private rooms there as far as I know, we shared with 2 other women (and partners). My husband was allowed to stay and they gave him a comfier chair to sleep on when it was available :)

I had a baby last month and was really good experience! Had a planned c section for breech baby but I went into labour early so had a kind of emergency c section but was very chill still. We were in a room with just one other person for after baby was born and my husband stayed and had a recliner chair but we heard those were hard to come by! Midwives were all really amazing and responsive.

I had a c-section there in December. I felt really well looked after. It was a shared room until I went into labour/waters broke, then I had a private room which is were I had the epidural.

Yea my partner was allowed to stay with me the whole time. I eneded up being in for 9 days and he was welcome to stay in the chair next to me (luckily got a reclining one). We moved to a shared ward once I had bubba.

If you're a light sleeper bring earplugs. If you are planning to have bubba as a water birth or in the birthing centre, you won't be able to have an epidural on stand by. You'd need to be in the labour ward

I did so much research and even looked at the quality care commission and it’s rated Good! Some other hospitals (like St George’s) are rated inadequate so it really goes to show that it’s just a stigma that Croydon has

Thank you all for sharing info with me. So far I am happy about everything, have to say also I’m having a smooth pregnancy and when they had a little doubt about my baby girl size they sent me to do extra scan for reassurance. Was just wondering about the birth experience and now I feel much more relaxed, thank you ☺️

Hey i had a good experience rhere when i had my baby in Feb - arrived in active labour after a gel pessary induction the day before & went straight to a delivery room rather than the labour ward. Did ask for an epidural but things moved really fast, and ended up with an emergency c section - the team for that was incredible! Midwives were lovely. The recovery ward was busy & a bit noisy / hard to sleep in overnight, but my partner could stay in a chair next to me & there were tea, coffee & snack facilities just down the corridor. They did bring breakfast, lunch & dinner & there were quite a few options to choose from & the food was alright actually! Bring a battery pack or long charging cable for your phone in case you end up in for longer than you expect. I have nothing to compare it to but i felt generally supported & cared for the whole time. Good luck for your birth!

Small head reported following 20 week scan

Has anyone else had it flagged that their baby is in the bottom 5th percentile for head size?

They said everything was fine whilst we were in the scan and then I got a phone call the next day saying that it’s on the small side and we’re being referred to a paediatric specialist at St George’s. Has anyone else had this and how did things go??

Scan needed at 33 weeks

Hi ladies! I just had a midwife appointment (I am 33+5)..the midwife was different to my usual midwife. She's requested I have a scan within 72 hours as she said baby is measuring a little small, however, she did say that it's likely nothing to worry about and it's probably just her measuring me a bit different to my usual midwife. Has anyone else had this? Am a bit worried although babys heartbeat and movements are completely fine.

Finding out gender

Has anyone found out the gender at a private scan at 14 weeks? And has this been accurate?

I found out at 17 with my first but I know a scan place that offers from 14/15 weeks and I’m impatient 😂🥲

Rolling milestone at 5 months - What’s typical ?

Good morning ladies,

My daughter will be 5 months old tomorrow, but there’s still no sign of her rolling. She does tummy time and loves lying on her mat, playing with hanging toys above her and to the sides, but she only lifts her legs and doesn’t seem interested in rolling or moving sideways yet.

Anyone else the same or have your babies already learnt how to roll yet ?

Thank you
