I exclusively breastfeed and my LO is gaining weight well. He’s 11 pounds and was 7 pounds at birth but I saw a lactation consultant and they stated he should have at least a 4-5 hours sleep window at night, is this true for others?? He is still waking every two hours to eat.

How old is the baby?
My baby is 6 months old, EBF and still wakes hourly to two hourly to feed overnight. If gaining weight well I’d say it’s totally normal x

he is 5 weeks and oh yay, that makes me feel so much better!

honestly every baby is different. While some sleep long stretches early on some don’t until much older so I’d just focus on what’s normal for your baby. Sleep also isn’t linear, at some stage around 3 months my baby slept 10 hours overnight now he can’t go longer than 2 so it really just depends on the season you’re in! So much goes on for them at so many different stages which affects sleep x

Breastfed babies, especially nursing, should be fed on demand as you have no way of knowing exactly how much they're getting. A 5 week old doesn't need to be woken up to feed if above birth weight but they should be fed if waking up hungry, which can definitely be every few hours during the night. That LC doesn't sound well versed in baby sleep, which is outside their scope anyway 🤷

thank you both soo much. You all’s point of view makes complete sense. I definitely thought it was odd that she would tell me to go home and try to let him sleep for 4 hours. I’ll stick to his schedule!

you may get a good sleeper soon but it's pretty realistic to have a lot of wake ups as they use nursing for more than just food. There's nothing like a mommy snuggle and milk to them ♥️

I can tell he’s starting to realize when I am not near him when sleeping. He wakes up then too

yup super common! They can smell you a mile away and want you as close as possible. Can't blame them, moms are amazing 😍

We are ! 🥹🥰

We feed on demand, if baby wants to eat let them- 5-6 hours is not what a lot of mums experience 😂 my daughter is 12 weeks and just started sleeping for 4-6 hours at the start of the night, she was constantly nursing before then and is still on the boob every 1-3 hours in the day if not more. Every baby is different but trust them because they know what they need xxx
