Hi! Just looking for some reassurance really. My little boy had his second settling in session (an hour without me) in nursery today. He was fine at drop off and was fine during. The nursery staff said he cried after half an hour but that they managed to settle him relatively easy which is reassuring. However, when we came to pick him up and we realised we were there, he starter proper crying, like a cry that I rarely see and with a lot of hiccups and he was difficult to settle. Is this normal? I just felt so awful and guilty for him being so upset I started crying too, in front of everyone, which definetly was embarrassing and not helpful 🙈

Totally normal. It’s a rush of emotion for them to see you - their primary caregiver. It can still happen after months - mine cries sometimes when I collect him and a) he loves nursery and is settled all day and b) he’s been going since 15 Jan.
Don’t worry - and so great that he did so well!!

Ps: I’m quite sure they see loads of mums crying. I had a proper breakdown after one of the settling ins and they told me it’s very normal to be upset x

Mine cried to see me. Totally normal. He also occasionally cries now once I come home. Just lots of emotions for them.

Oh bless you. It’s completely normal for them to get upset at pickup 🥺 My boy had his first proper week this week at nursery and he’s cried every day at pick up.
Also don’t be embarrassed that you cried too. It’s only natural. Think they would be surprised if you didn’t 💗

I’ve cried in front of the nursery team too! They gave me some tissues meant for the babies snotty noses 😂Hopefully soon you will have big cheesy grins on pick up. Your little bub is probably realising how much he’s missed you and happy to see you and is struggling to express the big emotion 💗
Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your kind words and for sharing your experiences xx
