Feeding aversion

I have a 6 month old who clamps his mouth shut and turns his head away every time I tried to introduce purée or solid. Has anyone experienced this ? Or has an idea on how to introduce food in this situation?

Have you tried baby led weaning?

@Lillian I tried a few time but he just plays with the food and now every time I put him in his chair he cries.

I would think just keep trying different textures and flavors. Let him play with the food and get anything in his mouth he can when brings his hands to his mouth. He should eventually gain interest.

I heard it’s normal for them to want to explore and not eat so much as play with the food and be exposed to it. I would try to make it fun for him and maybe try feeding in a different location. My girl does better if I feed her off my plate when I’m holding her 😂 she’s also not super interested in food but she’s never been a big eater. Have you tried the silicone feeders you can put fruit and stuff in?

Thank you! This is a good idea. I will try to feed him in a different location. I also tried the silicone feeder (I was so excited about it) but he refuses it…

What have you tried feeding him?

As someone with a toddler with a pediatric eating disorder and now starting food with my 6 month old, food is learning curve they need time to form a mental map of their mouth. Teethers are great tool. Focus on play and making it a positive experience. Most food won’t get consumed in the beginning. It’s a skill that develops along the way. Follow Solid Starts on instagram if you’re interested in baby led weaning, they make it so simple and answer a ton of questions, they have a free app too where they tell you how to prep food safely for each age/ability. And if you continue to struggle after a couple months ask your pediatrician. Doesn’t hurt to ask a professional.

This is super helpful!! Thanks Kel.

We have a silicone feeder spoon, and I sometimes have my partner hold my son in his lap. He usually will eat whatever I put in it. Also, try the mesh fruit feeder and put yellow dragon fruit in it. That's how we got Levi to like other foods.
