Dummies and breastfeeding

I am due in July and wanting to try breastfeeding. Do dummies have a negative effect on breastfeeding, can I introduce one or not?

I BF and LO has a dummy. We introduced it at 3 weeks, breastfeeding wasn’t completely established at that point cos I started late due to trauma. It was hard cos he wanted the dummy over breast but he now only has his dummy to sleep. I think if BF is well established a dummy would be fine :)

I think it depends on the baby. I BF and my baby won’t take a paci now. He took it the first week of being born but once my milk fully came in, he didn’t want it anymore.

It didn’t interfere for me personally. I gave in and gave her a dummy at 3 days old and she’s still breastfeeding at 17 months xx

Can introduce, may cause some nipple confusion. It did for my son so we stoped doing bottles and dummies for a bit to make sure he would take the breast and then after that he wouldn’t ever take dummy or bottle again. Not the worst thing cus now I don’t need to take it away, my pals have 2.5 year olds that are proving very difficult to take the dummy away from lol. So if they don’t take it I’d just let it be!

An alternate perspective; I exclusively nursed and didn’t give a paci- I ended up becoming a human pacifier as she flat out refused a paci as she preferred to use me as one. I wish I would have given her one earlier on it would have made nights a lot easier on me! My second is due in July and I will be allowing a paci this time around

I did at 3 weeks after giving in to suggestions to give him one as I was in constant demand. Feeding was established and going pretty well. I know constant demand is normal but I mean constant!

Thank you all so much!
