Tired and confused

I had my daughter on May 1. While we were in the hospital, she did a great job with breastfeeding. Ever since we came home yesterday she’s had a problem. She will latch herself for a few sucks then break latch, throw her head from side to side screaming, and refuse to get back on. My milk has come in so I know that’s not the issue. Am I doing something wrong?

It could be a number of things… and I definitely recommend calling the IBCLC where you delivered your baby ❤️ in the meantime, maybe try breast compressions before feeding to trigger a letdown. This could either relieve a strong flow, or get things started for her if she needs a little help. I had a forceful letdown in the early days that led to frustration for my son and I’d have to express a bit of milk before latching him.

No, ma'am. You're not doing something wrong. Do you know if you have a let down that is slow or one that's too fast? If she isn't getting milk fast enough (slow let down) or stops getting milk (too fast) then she might do that. My son is doing the same (2m) my let down is fast, but we are also going to get him evaluated for a tongue tie. That could also cause similar problems. Good luck, mama. 🥰

A lot of babies do this. My eldest did, as soon as we got home he refused to feed. Keep at it and see an Ibclc certified Lactation Consultant

You aren't doing anything wrong. Both of you are learning. Start with pump and feed so he's not hungry with a size 0 bottle nipple so he's not hungry and eat bland food. Get in touch with your lactation consultant and go through all the motions. Tongue tie, milks too slow, too fast, position makes the baby scared, etc. I had best success with being side line and my little kinda there and he worked it as pacifier. Soon he learned that it made him not hungry. It was relaxing enough that we just too the time.
