Suspicious man at night

Hi 👋 I just want some support as I'm shivering from fear . Tonight around 00:15 our driveway sensor lights came on and as I got to the window from our bed ,I could see a man running for his life into a van and drove away in a flash of light. I was so shocked and scared that I couldn't read anything from his van (for some reason my foggy brain was more focused to see his face rather than memorising any clue) How can I report this ? Does the police do anything about it? My husband keeps assuring me that it was probably someone looking for scrap metal,but I can't unsee it. Unfortunately we don't have CCTV to check any footage,but I feel I won't be able to live peacefully in this house unless I know he really was looking for some junk . Ps:The back of his van wasn't messy like you expect to see from that type of occupation. It was full of similar white boxes neatly left next to each other. Too organised for a thief, isn't it? What else could it be ? Will the police laugh if I call them in the morning once our child is awake . I'm terrified, but don't want to scare her as well. Plz help me
