Waking up early & crying

Our son (14 month) has just recently in the last couple of weeks started waking up at 5/5:30 and he just cries and cries. He used to wake up between 6-7am and quite happily sit in his crib no crying as if he has had enough sleep but it’s now early and just cries. We tried different bed times but still cries early, we try putting him back to sleep, cries even more. Is this a phase? 6-7 wake up i can deal with but 5/5:30 i cant 😂🙈 I recently stopped the morning breastfeed as trying to stop feeding, but he wont drink cows milk from a bottle in the morning just refuses it. I also feel feeding him breakfast at 5/5:30 is too early or am i being silly?

Anywhere between 12-15 months, babies can go through a sleep regression. It's really common and doesn't last long. So could be that. Although, could they be teething and waking earlier due to pain?

Mine is exactly the same 🥲 every night for the last week or so he’s up for 3 hours (same age) xx
