What does everyone think of the name Koa for an English boy? My partner and I met in New Zealand and it’s a maori word meaning to be happy, so it has a lot of meaning to us. It’s just getting some unwelcome reactions from family and friends and starting to make me paranoid that we’re subjecting our child to a life of name comments! I personally love it but what are your thoughts? Koa James O’Brien would be the full name, James after my dad who passed away a few years ago xx

It’s lovely! I know someone whose son is Koa. It’s not a completely unheard of name in the UK anymore. Your family will get used to the fact that that’s his name and pretty soon they won’t even remember not initially liking it! Xx

If it means something to you and you’ve fallen in love with it go for it. I don’t know anyone called Koa but I’ve heard it a lot and I don’t think people could really say a lot about the name , it’s a nice name , it’s not hard to pronounce , it’s not unheard of, maybe be a few other koa’s at school by time he gets there.

I like it. I've heard it a couple of times here and there but don't know anyone personally with that name.

I know someone with a son called Koa. It is a cute name

I really like it

I know a Koazy who is a YouTube bloggers baby but not ever heard of koa!

Koa is a nice boy name, I’m sorry your family is making you second guess it!

I’ve never heard of it but I like it! I don’t think it’ll be a popular name

My nephew goes by Koa, but has the full name Nakoa.

I love it

Thanks everyone! I think it’s a lovely unique twist on Noah/Noa. Soft for a baby but strong for a man too. I think we’ll go for it 💪❤️

Love it!
