I've always had a great relationship with my MIL but I think she's being unreasonable this time around. I live with my husband, my parents, and our babies. We live about an hour away but when traffic builds it can turn into about a 4 hour drive. Our car thar has the car seat is the cooling unit is off and the car overheats fast we have to take it in and wait to hear back, the 2nd car we have the fuel sensor is off so even if it says I have gas I actually may or may not have it really 2nd car that's decided to basically wrap on us, the 3rd car suffered an accident with my parents it has since been repaired but it is a small electric vehicle and it's not the best, 4th is a lemon jeep. My husband's brother is graduating this is the baby of the family. My MIL wants us to be there but with all of our working cars just suddenly on the fritz we can't make it yet she's very upset that we're not making the effort. In the past she did not show up to our wedding even though when our cars were working her car went on the fritz and she told us she couldn't make it despite us all trying to work at it to help her out so his sister, brother and mom could make it, later she said she wouldn't because my husband's father is attending the wedding (they have been divorced since my husband was 3 he is 27 now) the second time was my gender reveal for my first, our baby shower, she showed up to our sons first birthday with my husband's father present the other events. She couldn't come to the rest because she was working, his brother was in trouble, and her car wasn't working again. She missed the baby shower to our second because she had an event for church. We've always understood but my husband hurts the most from this. His family is very absent on both sides but now she's being very rude and passive aggressive to my husband. "How come you can't take the train?" "Why aren't you taking work off?" "Your brother only graduates once in his life" (she didn't show up for my husband's actual granduation) Are we out of line??

It's mainly us going down to come see them never the other way around and when she does come she's literally only stayed for 3 hours cause church seminars calling, she doesn't want traffic to build up or his brother has homework to catch up on. This is his brother's highschool graduation and yes he's been the only father figure in his life. My husband can't drive it's me as the driver and I'm 8 months high risk these drives are starting to literally take the life out of me now but this is my husband's family and I love him and them enough to push through it, but right now not enough to risk an accident, or financial strain

Of course she is being unreasonable. That's glaringly obvious. You just can't make it, and you're close to giving birth. The drive isn't feasible. I had to tell my grandmother that I won't be able to come 500 miles south for thanksgiving because I'm due in early December and last pregnancy I gave birth a month early and I'm not coming with a newborn and toddler. They never come up here either and we don't have the money to do it and are moving in with my MIL in a couple weeks. So no, your MIL can honestly shut up and understand the world doesn't revolve around her and your BIL. Yeah it'll suck to miss it but it's not worth the risks involved in going! Tell her you can't come and there's no more discussing it.
@Clarissa Okay cause my husband has been feeling alot of guilt but I on the other hand am annoyed about it 1 because this hurts my husband it seems like he's trying to bend over backwards. 2 He did look the train schedules and I was like 100% no someone literally got shot last week at the train stop we have and it's like at 4:30am and she can't even drive him back up here and by 8pm driving 2 days ago a bear got hit and led to a total closure of the hwy. He needs to be at work at 12pm tomorrow like even time wise he wouldn't make it to work and if he misses 2 days he'll be demoted to part time work and we cannot take that hit
3 She missed our wedding I didn't bat an eye, she missed both baby showers I was bummed for my husband but I understood and for her not to extend the same courtesy and to be angry about it I love my BIL but I do agree the OUR family me+husband and kids our world does not revolve around them I know he's the favorite but considering the past and her faith ( we don't share it but we do participate in events in the past) it's just like come on seriously YOUR getting upset f**k out of here with that.
If this continues to drag on to my husband visiting his father on father's day I'm having trouble staying silent and also supporting my husband without letting my own bias' show
