Yesterday, my LO fell and bit her tongue really bad. It was so bad that I took her to her pediatrician asking if we should take her to the hospital because there was so much blood. Her pediatrician is like 3 blocks away.
They told me there's nothing anyone can do because the tongue heal so quickly, and it's not so bad that it needs stitches.
The bleeding stopped, but every time my little ones tried to drink, she hurt her tongue. She'll still run around and play and blow raspberries so clearly it's not as terrible as I think it is. But every time she sticks her tongue out to be silly, I just want to cry because it's such a bad cut on her tongue.
There was nothing I could really do to prevent her from tripping and biting her tongue because even on the camera, it seemed like a terrible accident. I was peeing at the time, but I feel like I failed my LO from getting seriously hurt.
Now I have to treat my LO like she has a tongue piercing, and honestly, if she was just a rebellious teenager, this would be so much easier. But seeing my almost 2 year old with a big cut across her tongue just literally makes me sick and cry.

Your not a bad mom or failed. Sadly around 2 kids are just injury prone. My son has busted his lip on concrete by running and his teeth went straight through. It was a very scary moment for me and his dad. It stopped but didn't need stitches. He also busted his lip on the hardwood floor, scraped his knees, scraped his hands....it's all a part of life and kids will hurt themselves.

Girl every mom has a story like this sadly š„ one time I was taking him a bath and he slipped out of the tub and busted his lip, it was so fat for a day

Not a bad mom, accidents happen.
When my oldest was 2 or 3, she decided to attempt to climb over the baby gate we had for her puppy. She had been told not to climb it and she was well aware that she shouldnāt be climbing itā¦.but she did anyway. The gate and her fell and she bit into her tongue. We lived with my parents and my mom had been home, she told me it would probably be fine and I called the pediatrician who also said they couldnāt do anything because it would heal pretty quickly on itās own.
I felt bad at the time, she was worried about her shirt that had gotten blood on it (it was one pf her favorites) but by the end of the week she seemed fine.
If she keeps acting like it hurts when drinking, you can give her popsicles and lots of fruits (esp watermelon) as theyāll help keep her hydrated. You could also call her pediatrician and see what they recommend.

When my son was 1.5 I tripped walking up the stairs at my work while carrying him. He hit his chin on the corner of a step and bit through his tongue in 3 spots š³ my coworkers and I got it to stop bleeding within 20 minutes but then he took a drink through a straw and it started bleeding again and didnāt stop for the next 2-3 hours when I decided to call the dentist and pediatrician and they told me to take him to the ER. At the ER is bled for the whole two hours we were there and all they ended up doing was sedating him so he would fall asleep and stop moving his tongue around and when he woke up it didnāt bleed again. We were told to avoid crunchy and salty foods as well as not use a straw or let him nurse for the first 1-3 days after depending on healing and his comfort level. Within a day he was acting better and able to use a straw again. I felt so guilty though and while my husband drove him home and let him sleep in the car I went to target and got him applesauce, yogurt,

And popsicles! And a few new toys! And a new cup without a straw to try to make it fun to use. He refused and wanted the straw anyways. And also within 12 hours was able to nurse again. He did have weird scars/flaps of āskinā for a while, but within a few weeks they completely healed and you can no longer tell! I still felt so bad though because I was the one who tripped.

That's awful! š I feel bad for both of you, but accidents happen. All you can do is heal emotionally/physically and move forward. My son is my first born, now 11 and not much more graceful with age𤣠There were some scary times as a toddler and now I have to try not to roll my eyes or laugh. Mostly because he's usually talking trash or doing something I warned him not to do at the time𤦠I still ask if he's okay, I just can't help giggling sometimes. None of my 3 have ever had to go to the hospital, thank goodness. Not one of them is getting through toddler years without a goose egg, bruise, scratch or scrape.

The tongue is very vascular but it does heal quickly. My son did the same when he was 2 and I too took him in to be seen. My youngest broke her arm at the age of 2 after falling off the bed.
If she's uncomfortable drinking, maybe try to freeze what she's drinking to get the cooling/soothing sensation. Don't feel bad mamas. These babies are accident prone and there will be many more boo-boos as they grow. Go easy on yourself š¤

so last year my 3 year old daughter was running from me with the handle of the catās brush in her mouth. she fell and it cut right next to the webbing under her tongue. i freaked out bc it looked so bad and called 911. they came out, looked at her and said that the bleeding would stop in a few minutes with some ice under her tongue. no stitches needed. i felt like the worst mom possible, but the paramedics kept reassuring me that she was okay and reminded me that it wasnt my fault and if i was such a bad mom then i wouldnāt be so worried about her well being. so hereās your reminder. youāre a great mom and doing the best you can
