I decided to go with this car seat, since it will grow with the baby. However, I wasn’t thinking about it not being a “carrier” and how convenient that feature is. Has anyone started out with this one? Did you regret it? Should we get a carrier one for the first couple months then switch to this one?

I got the grow with me carseat and then also got a carrier seat based on recommendations from other moms. Unless you have a newborn specific stroller, they say it's nice to have the carseat carrier version too.
Idk since I'm also pregnant with our first but just what I've been told

Im also looking at getting the all-in-one car seat. But don't we still need a carrier to get discharged from the hospital?

i don’t think a carrier is required but it would def be easier! Otherwise, we would need to haul that big car seat in.

that is what I was thinking.

We just got the Graco 3 in 1, and I like it a lot! With our first kiddo we had an infant carrier one at first which was very convenient since baby falls asleep in the car a lot when they are little, and then you can easily bring them into the house or wherever without waking them up. And the carriers usually click into a stroller system, so you can take baby into the store, etc. without waking them up. I found that very convenient, and so will use the infant carrier first with our new baby as well. Also, they fit for quite a while in the infant carrier seats. My son is big (95th ish percentile), and he still fit in his carrier seat until close to a year old.

I believe hospitals just have requirements that you have a car seat installed in your car. I doubt very much that they would make you uninstall your convertible car seat and take it into the hospital. For my first kiddo, no one at the hospital actually checked anything or said anything regarding the carseat. I think it’s more of a technicality, and they assume most everyone has one. Someone could always go out to your car with you to check if they really insisted. But I kinda doubt they would.

I only used the carrier for about 4 months. My baby didn’t sleep in the car seat so I just moved him into the grow with me car seat which he liked better

@Erica yes. I'm doing a grow with me system and just using a wrap instead of an infant car seat

the car seat has to be installed in the car. If you have an infant seat the base stays in the car, so lots of people bring in the car seat to help learn how to situate the baby in the seat and make sure they've done it correctly, but that's not required (at least not by my hospital).
As long as your car seat is rated for your babies size you should be totally fine.

Thanks everyone!
