Kissing baby/OH family

Myself and my partner are 19 and 20 FTP for reference.

my OH family and our 7 week old baby girl, his family suffer with cold sores really bad and I really struggled with stepping up and telling them but I realised that I have to advocate for her. Thry do not like my attitude on this situation and his dad even told me that he was going to take my baby from me for depriving her of love from people and we are helicopter parents who need to chill out.

Just for reference me and my partner do kiss her but on the back of the head.

EDIT ADD ON: They also think they are entitled to turn up to my house and think they can just take my baby (they have not yet taken them) but they think they are entitled to as it is “their baby” and apparently as her mum and dad we are stopping them from getting a parent like bond with our baby!!!

Why would I want anybody to have a “parent like bond” with MY baby other than myself and my partner!

Then on the other hand they have said this is why their grandson (my partners nephew) is their favourite as they can kiss him whenever or wherever they want to (he is 2)

Am I in the wrong??????

Why do people think they’re so entitled to kissing your baby!! And if they get cold sores too, why would they want to risk baby getting it! Well done you though for putting your foot down, because that’s so hard!

Avatar

honestly I am having such a hard time understanding why everyone feels the need to kiss my baby! I wouldn’t dream of picking someone’s baby up and even asking to kiss them never mind actually doing it without permission

The herpes virus is really risky for little ones and if they can't understand that they are putting your baby at risk by kissing her then I'd be locking my door and refusing them access until she's had her jabs. If they don't respect your decisions then sorry but then they don't get to see the baby. I know it's hard but you've got to try and put your foot down on this one

Avatar

I have stopped his dad seeing her unfortunately especially after telling me he’s going to get her taken away from me for protecting her his mums next if she doesn’t start listening even after her jabs I don’t want anyone kissing her

@Lauren I'm sorry to hear you're not being respected, I hope you're getting support from tour family. Remember to reach out to your health visitor if you are struggling at all

Absolutely not, this would infuriate me! They should know better, it can be fatal for a baby to catch things that wouldn’t be so severe to us.
Also if your breastfeeding you kiss away, it actually protects your baby and helps their immune system if you do rather than harm them - unless you’re unwell then obviously avoid

Tell them you’re happy that other child is fav grandson for them lol 😂 and u won’t be bothered anyway. Seriously they shouldn’t kiss anyone whether baby is newborn or two years ! They sound very ignorant, entitled, immature !

Your baby isn’t even immune , what if your baby gets sick… you’re the one who will have to deal with the pain. They won’t be helpful I bet, be blunt . Don’t give in to such entitled ppl !

You guys are the parent, they’re not ! How stupid prick like attitude they have.

Only me n my husband are allowed to kiss our babies. In fact we don’t even kiss them too much if my toddler says no ! My newborn so far hasn’t met much ppl. I’ve said in hesitant tone but I told no kissing to newborn or even wear perfume to whoever has visited us, don’t care what they have to think. So far we’ve been respected

Avatar

yes my family are so understanding and even asked me before I give birth any rules we had for when she is born so they do not cross any lines and have never slipped up or broken any rules or boundaries!!

Avatar

I formula feed, myself and her dad both kiss her on the back of the head and even that is rare x

Avatar

Thank you!!! I have now since posting this told them both they are no longer allowed to see her unless the can respect both myself and my partners rules!! You don’t get to my baby through disrespecting the parent

Avatar

I've been in a similar situation. After telling them 4 TIMES they have limited contact now. I've made my thoughts known 🤣🤣🤣

Avatar

I’ve also resorted to the same. My stomach turns now at the thought of seeing them just for this very issue. The fact they need constant reminding is draining. Don’t understand why it’s so difficult to show love to a baby without kissing him/her. Love would be better shown by thinking of the bigger picture and not putting baby at risk. Older generation is something else and I’m tired of dealing with them!

@Nabs literally in the same position it gives me so much anxiety but it's also causing a bit of conflict in my relationship with my partner so I'm really trying!! 🤣 x

This is actually a better video. I’ve just forwarded it on to my whole family x https://youtu.be/FurU1wJHKgk?si=KoMxQlJWao1YoMz1

Is it bad of me to think this or no?

My husband has been abroad for work (1 day and exploring for 1 day) for 2 and a half days which means I’ve had both kids (1 year and 4 year old) for 2 and a half days plus cooking, cleaning, taking them to clubs, bedtimes!
He came home late afternoon and said I’m so tired, I just need to chill. I said can you wash up whilst I sort kids dinner out, he said he’ll do it later which means he won’t do it and I’ll end up doing it so I said no do it now please otherwise I’ll end up doing it and he said well you have been home and I’ve been away so you’ve just been relaxing.
Don’t know what planet he is on but having the kids alone for 2.5 days is not relaxing. I was stressed!

When he was away, I did miss him and wanted him to come back but now he’s back, I want him to go away again😂
Is that bad?

Feeding

My son is coming up to five months and I just started giving him oatmeal and rice cereal. When can you start trying veggies or fruits? I only give him the oatmeal or rice cereal once a day right now which is what the paediatrician had said to do. I’m just curious to when anybody tried anything else with their kids cause my son eats a lot of formula and he’s VERY curious when I eat.

Really bothered by this

A friend posted this and it really bothers me because that is exactly how she parents her kid, and it's rather unfortunate because when our kids hang out together, her kid has a meltdown at least 5x within an hour. We have know them for years and it's only gotten worse. My kids will concede to hers, because they don't want to see their friend crying, but it sucks because they give up so much of their toys and enjoyment to keep the peace. We aren't hanging out as much anymore but it's rather sad to think she doesn't intervene more in her child tantrums and just let's it slide

Is this normal

Let’s say you’re at a softplay with your 2 year old, and some friends & their toddlers.
You buy your 2 year old a kids meal - chicken nuggets, beans, and chips. They’re very happy with it and have almost eaten it all.
They’re sat at the table, fork in hand, consistently eating, and have one chicken nugget left.
Your adult friend comes over from behind you, picks up the last chicken nugget, and eats it.
There was no indication that your child wasn’t going to eat it, and they didn’t ask. They just took it with no warning and ate it right in front of you and your toddler.
How you reacting?

Shift worker daddies - advice please?

My husband works shifts (6am-6pm days or 6pm-6am nights) so when he’s on shift we either get about an hour or 2 before he goes to work or an hour or 2 when we gets home with him.

I don’t think people who aren’t married/have babies with shift workers fully understand the impact of feeling like a solo parent sometimes.

Does anyone have any advice? I do have parents who can help but I struggle to leave my baby with others as I always feel like they don’t understand the need for tracking wake windows or feeds and our baby will not sleep unless we black out a room or go for a car drive . Everyone seems to think ‘if he’s tired he’ll drop off’ - no he’ll just get overtired and have to then pay for it during his night sleep. So I feel like it’s just easier for me to do it all myself.

When my husbands off work he is great but I do take the mental load of telling him what to do or even reminding him of wake windows etc because he’s not here and forgets routines. He’s also being tested for ADHD currently so there’s that on top of shift work.

Just looking for advice on how to stay sane/keep routines or share loads with shifts workers?

Thank you ❤️
