Post partum prep

Looking for some advice as a FTM
What is everyone using for postpartum pants/pads etc? Do I need disposable briefs or would maternity pads/nappies be sufficient?

My SIL gave me a bunch of Tena adult nappies that she swore by for the first few days PP.

Appreciate it’s not going to be the most comfortable time but not sure I want to splash out on the Frida Mom products

With my first I wore my normal pants with tesco own maternity pads, you absolutely don't need expensive products x

thank you! Did you use any cooling pad or spritz type products? There’s so many products out there and so many “must haves” it’s overwhelming. Appreciate every body and every birth is different so what worked for some might not for others

When I had my first 13 years ago, it was literally hospital disposable pants or a thick pad in your underwear with a jug of water by the toilet for when I weed 🤣
I bled through so many times with both of mine so I've got fridamom disposable underwear this time and just plan to get the boots own brand pads to go in then as they've got good reviews. I'll definitely be getting a peri bottle though incase of stitches x

I feel so overwhelmed, everytime I go online it’s ’you need this it’s a life saver’ and the next someone else saying the hated it! It’s so hard to know what to buy, especially when everything is so expensive! I couldn’t believe how expensive the Frida Mom products are.
FTM here too, I’ve bought some big briefs from primark (I’m normally a thong girl) and also a pack of their period pants as thought the extra layer of absorption would give me peace of mind to avoid leaks on the first few days! I was recommended the organic boots maternity pad as a really good but affordable option so going to get a few packs and see how i get on! X

I was wondering about getting period pants to stop any leaks?

I used tenna nappies the first time round for the first few days and they were amazing! I also used spritz for bits and that helped a lot too

I think i’m going to buy a pack of always discrete pants rather than splash out on the frida ones!

I’ve been looking into it too and have been told it’s largely personal preference and comes down to how often you feel you need to be changing yourself to feel comfortable.

I’ve have been told they’ll give you pads and disposable underwear in the hospital while you’re there but you’ll quickly figure what you would prefer and how heavy things are and can always send someone out to buy things for you - my partner keeps reminding me i’m only in the hospital not a remote desert island 🤣

Ive got some boots own tena nappies, some boots disposable pants, and some boots thick maternity pads. Some people prefer one over the other so thought I'd try both, fairly cheap if you get own brands. Then the lilets maternity pads for the following few weeks.

Oh and I've got a peri bottle just in case.

I used Frida disposable pants and natracare new mom pads for the first few days post partum. Then swapped to big pants and lilets maternity pads with wings after. All ordered from Amazon. No issues with leaking so I will do this again this time. A peri bottle was absolutely key for me after birth. Can't imagine not having it 😂 I was also given spritz for bitz by a friend that helped to soothe things after going for a wee. I'd spray it on the pad

Thank you so much for your comments. You’re all superstars ⭐️ Feeling less alone in the post partum product minefield now. Thank goodness for this app 🙌🏻

my partner keeps saying the same, I’m bulk shopping like we live on a remote island with no friends or family 😂😂😂 we live 5 mins from a boots and a supermarket and all our family are local so it’s really not end of the world if I want to get something different 😂

I listened to a podcast about PP and read many articles from my fave labour nurse and some midwives. So got maternity pads, reusable PP undies, planning to get Frida cooling foam as great reviews from my friends, nipple cream from lansinoh and weleda, silver cups and make my own peri bottle (any bottle with that "sucking part" will do) 🙌🏼🙌🏼

With my first I used the Aldi brand adult nappies or whatever they are and my normal period panties with tescos maternity pads. Depending on the flow how much control I had over any incontinence and how much abdominal support I wanted I would mix and match. I never used any spritzes or anything though I had some on hand I also had cooling pads that you snapped like a glow stick to activate. I never used those either. I plan on preparing the same for my Oct. baby and just going with the flow. Had a nice peri bottle but as I felt no discomfort whist weeing I just used my shower head as a bidet a few times a day. And patted dry with toilet roll or cotton wool after weeing or showering.

I’ve just been and bought my supplies for my second baby today. My best tip is that you will figure out what you like SO QUICKLY. I personally liked lilets maternity pads, Fridamom disposable pants and most importantly LANSINOH BREAST PADS (these are the holy grail if you have boobs that love to leak.) Everyone is different though and it’s just like when you started your period. You figure out what you love and hate so fast, just be prepared to try other brands.

P.s. the only reason why I went for disposable pants is that I felt so gross and it was easier to just rip them off and bin before a shower than buy and continually wash loads of big pants that I don’t normally wear. Also they completely mould to your body in a really comfy way. I only used disposable ones for a week or so. You could totally just go straight for the normal pants.

@Rachel no I didn't use anything and I was alright! X

I had my little girl last July and I had an episiotomy. I absolutely swore by tena nappies. I’m a bargain hunter but I definitely recommend paying the extra for the Tena ones, as I found the cheaper supermarket own branded ones gave me really itchy/sore skin, they didn’t seem to be as breathable? I got nappy rash from them lol 😂 I didn’t wear them for that long then just literally wore big cheap primark pants (get black, you then can’t see any stains) with Tesco own maternity/period pads. The only other thing I absolutely swore by was the my expert midwife spritz for bits. I was gifted this so didn’t need to pay out for it but my god it’s amazing stuff. That’s literally all I used post partum and as I say I had an episiotomy and didn’t feel like I needed anything else. I brought disposable knickers but never used them, the nappies were perfect. I also used the shower head to rinse every time I went for a wee. Bit of a faff but so worth it x

Hour night wakes and 5am get up

Can anyone shed some light as to why on earth my child doesn’t want to sleep??? My eyeballs are bleeding!!

Never been a good sleeper, but the problems always changing. He’s nearly 9 months old.

Beginning of the month he dropped to 2 naps. We could put him to bed at 7pm and he’d get up for the day at 6am, with multiple wake ups every 2/3 hours.

Now we put him down at 7pm, he can do a good 4/5 hour stretch, but come 1/2am he’s up every hour then getting up for the day at 5am. This then completely messes up the day because I can’t keep him awake long enough to even get to 7pm, let alone later.

He has 2 naps, roughly about 1hr10 each but it changed based on when he wakes and trying to get him to a reasonable bed time.

What could be the reason for this? 6am is fine, but 5am is not 😩😩

AITA

In the uk there is an outbreak of meningitis, in a specific area mainly. My BD has family from that area and decided to go and meet up with them, I said if he does then he cannot have contact with the kids for 7-10 days after incase he picks anything up. Am I being over dramatic? I reallyyy don’t want my young kids getting anything serious

I think its fair

Me and my partner agreed to sleep in 1 day of the weekend.
He doesn't find it fair to look after both kids (my 4 year old isnt his) while i sleep so he looks after the baby while i sleep and my toddlers at his dads and ill look after both the next day.
Straightaway it was pretty unfair as i let him sleep in until he wakes up 10-12
He wakes me up when baby starts fussing because he wants milk (doesnt need it)
I cant pump as i dont supply enough.
So i get woken at 9/9:30 to feed baby then i get him sleep then theres no point sleeping in as my toddlers being dropped off.
I also find it unfair that i get both kids to sleep most night, i get my toddler to sleep everyday hes home (4/5days) and i get my baby to sleep most nights with the exception of maybe twice a month as his dad struggless then about 95% of his thru the day naps.
I have also been unwell for a few months (tumor scare) and am waiting 18 weeks to see a specialist so im obviously petrified for that, so unbelievably tired and alot of aches and pains, specifically these pounding headaches ive been having.
After i had been up til 11:30 getting both kids to sleep lastnight and my partner falling asleep at 10 then him ignoring the baby cries all morning until my toddler woke up im fed up slammed to door and rold him not to expect to sleep in unless he gets the baby to sleep the night b4.
I keep having issues with him not feeling the wet from baby being sick or weeing himself or being able to smell it do about 98% of the time hes given to me i have to clean him up n change him.
Including at night, we agreed my partner would change nappies (1 a night at 5am) while i feed (2,4,5,6:30) but every night when i get him hes pissed through and my partner gets annoyed when i wake him up n moan about it.
Then the morning after hes annoyed at how much washing there is (thats his job) and moans about how often i change myself (baby constantly shits thru and sicks on me) and baby
Honestly im just so tired all the time

Over supply of milk

I am nearly 5weeks postpartum and I have such a big over supply of BM.
Has anyone donated / sold their supply, if so where do you recommend for this?

Crawling and walking

So my girl is 9 months now and shes great at sitting up and stays on her tummy for awhile but she seems to have no interest in trying to move or crawl or bum shuffle. Shes a big baby always has been but I'm disabled and I feel like it's my fault she's not hitting milestones I feel like there's something I'm not doing and it's making me a bad mum

Night feeding in sleeping bag

Do you guys keep your baby in their sleeping bag when you feed them in the night, or do you take it off? I take it off as don’t want him to be too hot but then sometimes when he’s sleepy after his feed and I go to put it back on him he wakes up and is fussy. Not sure if I should just keep him in it?
