Pregnant with baby number 2 and PETRIFIED!

Just found out I’m expecting baby number 2 unexpectedly.
LG will my just over 3 when baby is born. My girl is SO much of a mummy’s girl, still such a Velcro kid I just can’t even imagine her being ok with me having to split myself between two children or how I will cope. Please tell me it’ll be ok. Feeling so many feelings right now and feeling alone x

Oh hun, my little boy will be 3 in feb. Im due my second boy on 3rd dec and feel this exact way. Im thinking the best thing is to make sure older one is involved as much as possible and praise where needed. Getting them to help with small jobs . X

I have a 2.5 year old and a 3 month old. Tbh you end up doing what the older child needs first because it’s easier that way in my experience.

The first month where I couldn’t do much we made sure she got mummy story time before bed every night with baby or while he slept or if he ate.

Your partner needs to start taking over bedtime routine as much as possible - that will help! Start slow with just the bath or something. You have loads of time for that to become the new normal.

Also some influencer said they talk to the baby like they do the toddler… like asking the baby to just wait while you do something. I thought it was genius so I do that with my kid and now she comforts him if he is crying and I have to do something before I can get to him.

Also the baby gave her a massive gift and she still talks about it and knows which books he gave her and which stuffed animal and her stickers. When we introduced we got some tears but then she came on the bed and played with her gift

Oh and I don’t have my toddler help with the baby other than throw nappies in the bin. She isn’t keen to hold him but loves to hug him. I’ve asked her if she wants to learn how I change a nappy but she would rather do it on her teddy honestly. I don’t force much.

Biggest change was changing the buggy to a bassinet. That upset her for 30 minutes maybe and now we have a double buggy and she loves it.

Congratulations! I’m due with my second also, they will be another Feb baby so my son will have very recently just turned 3 😅 for me this was a planned pregnancy and what made me want to try again was seeing my son interact with babies in a really gentle and curious way. At this age he’s become far more sociable and I could finally see how another child could slot into our family.

This being said my son is absolutely a mummy’s boy, he is very cuddly, he only wants me when he needs comfort, we still cosleep etc… I just believe that it will all work out even if it is going to be really difficult at first. I definitely expect a hard transition. But also I feel more confident as a parent going into this the second time so I do feel more relaxed about it.

As my baby isn’t here yet I can’t tell you it will all be ok. But you’ve managed hard times with your toddler, I’m sure, and so you can do this too.

But also it is totally ok to feel unsure and worried and to need time to process this news.
