My (nearly) 8 month old has been a good sleeper but generally, since moving to her own room a couple of months ago and into a cot, needs some comfort to fall asleep. Most recently it’s just been holding her hand until she drifts off, or singing (badly) softly if she’s wound up.
The past 2 nights she’s been rolling around and instead of going towards me for my hand to then drift off she’s been turning the other way and sort of doing odd side press ups on the wooden cot bars then her hands stay on them and she falls asleep. Last night she was hyper whilst I was in the room and wouldn’t settle so I stepped away and she went to sleep in minutes facing away again.
Is this self settling? Am I maybe now a distraction staying right by her cot until she falls asleep?
Feel ridiculous saying but I feel a little emotional she might not need me right now or anymore to get to sleep! Maybe my singing really was bad..

Sounds like self settling! My LO does similar she likes to roll on to her side and hold on to the bars. And sometimes I have to leave so she can do her thing without me distracting her to fall asleep. Sometimes I give her a kiss, but her in her cot and just leave which feels like I'm not giving her much love and tlc but that's what she wants 🤷♀️

I wish my baby could do this... he only falls asleep on my boobs and is up every hour nowadays 😅

I know many like the closeness of baby falling asleep and depending on you, but this is great for development, be proud, you'll still get hugs and bonding time other ways x
