Hi All,
Has anyone received their MAT B1 certificate yet?
I am 21 weeks tomorrow but haven’t got an appointment with the midwife until the last week of November which is at 26 weeks.
But with Christmas coming up and people taking time off around that period, I want to start the Mat Leave process at my workplace ASAP so that the paperwork gets done without delays.
I don’t have the direct number of my midwife. So not sure what to do.

Have you called your maternity unit? They can signpost you to your midwife or they can suggest where you need to go. I'm expected to have my 20w scan today so I'll be asking for my matb1 form then. That's what my midwife said anyway!

I somehow thought only the midwife can issue the certificate. So didn’t even think of asking the sonographer! I will give the Mat unit a call and see what they say. Thanks.

You normally don’t get the mat b1 form till 26 weeks. I had only just given in mine last time and then had my son at 26+5

@Alice omg i feel like that's so late! I need to meet with HR soon 😩 idk why my midwife said 20w. Unless it differs from hospital to hospital?

The mat b1 form only gives you access to your maternity pay it doesn’t take long to process or complete. In Northern Ireland it’s always at 26 weeks- if you think that’s still 14 weeks before edd

Also as awful as it sounds you don’t hit viability till 24 weeks so god forbid if something was to happen now it’s still classed as a miscarriage and you are not entitled to maternity but after viability it’s classed as a still birth and you are entitled to the full maternity allowance

oh dear. Thanks!
I might just approach my HR then to start the process and hand in the certificate when I get it. I tried calling my Mat unit where my midwife is at but they are closed right now.

I've been told I can get it at 20 weeks but need to ring the maternity helpline and they will post it out as I don't see my midwife until 23rd Dec and I want it sorting before then x

my HR won't do anything without the form even though I can tell her my EDD which is why I'm requesting mine at 20 weeks as I want to set my dates and have everything in writing

With my first and this pregnancy Ive had to submit my mat b1 form to my place of work before 24 weeks and they were strict that I needed the form! I just asked at the antenatal ward after my 20 week scan as you don’t see the midwife before my works cut of time. If you have an email or number for your midwife or maternity unit, you can contact them as well, they’ll send it out or arrange for you to collect! Xx

I called my GP practice the day after my 20 week scan and asked them to request it. I was then able to collect it by the end of that day

I emailed my midwife and she said after my scan it'll be posted to me as I also won't see my midwife until Dec now xx

My midwife said I would get it at my 24 week appointment. I work in HR and I have started the process with people before having the form and then taken the form off them once they have it. I know different HR departments work in different ways but it’s worth checking.

@Eunice @Anita just had my 20w and they gave me my matb1 form straight after.

I rang at 20 weeks and they issued one for me, I had to pick it up from the maternity unit 🙂

Thank you all so much! I spoke to the Maternity Unit and they asked me to come down to collect the certificate today
