Movements at 24 weeks

Hello! I’m 24 + 4 weeks pregnant and have been feeling baby boy move properly since around 20 weeks. Some days are much quieter than others and some days he’s really kicking where we can see it and feel it from the outside. Is this normal? On quiet days I will feel something here and there but I get really worried if I’ve not felt him properly kicking but also read online it’s probably normal for this stage in pregnancy?

I am 16 weeks now and was asked by my midwife if I have felt baby yet (he is number 3). I have, however she said not to worry about a pattern until 25+ weeks! Fingers crossed it starts soon for you but I don’t think there’s anything to worry about yet x

Patterns don't normally develop until third trimester but as long as you feel movement and it feels frequent there's nothing to worry about. They still have space until your about 28 weeks so they could just be in positions that's are towards your bavk hence quiet days :) I wouldn't worry too much as long as there's some movement after 24 weeks x

I'm the same, 24 + weeks. Quiet days are so worrying! You're not alone. As long as there's some movement people have said to me not to worry. Harder than it seems though! X

I was like this all the way to the end with my first. It’s really worrying but I know of lots of others who had the same. That said, if you’re EVER concerned go to pregnancy assessment. They’d rather see you all the time and there be nothing wrong than you avoid it and there be a problem.

Patterns won’t form until 27+ weeks and tbh not all babies even have a pattern. My daughter didn’t, she just moved constantly. If you are moving around loads on quiet days it’s likely movement is putting baby to sleep or they’re moving but it’s harder to feel. I’d recommend if you’re concerned initially having something cold or sugary, sitting down for half an hour and seeing if you feel movement. If not then contact triage to get checked out x

Thanks everyone. I think I’m feeling him more than I think if that makes sense but when there’s a quiet afternoon or something I get in my head!! Usually if I sit down for the evening he is really active but I know it’s still early to see patterns or to have anything to worry about. Thank you 🤩♥️

I’m 25 weeks and feel the same! Some days he moves loads but other days he’s a sleepy boy🥲 if I have been in work that day he’s usually quieter and I put it down to him sleeping due to me walking around. I feel like i’m on edge constantly x

Avatar

that sounds exactly the same as me so that’s reassuring! I keep saying he loves the weekends because I seem to feel him loads at the weekend lol but I think it’s because I’m not doing as much as in the week! I’m sure we are both absolutely fine and we will be feeling them non stop soon enough 😂x

I was like this and went to triage as i thought it was reduced movements but they said where baby is still so small they can hide round the back so kicks are as strong and they can tuck them self’s right in the front so kicks are extremely strong.
If you ever get worried and need reassurance you can call your midwife or triage they are really reassuring x

100%, I went on holiday last week and he was non-stop kicking the entire time so they must know when we are chilling to kick around😂x

I think if they are facing towards your back you feel less surface movement. I felt a big body turn on Friday of last week and then movement slowed down a bit so guessed she had switched positions, I could feel it on and off but really had to concentrate on feeling her. Lasted all weekend so that was nice and stressful 😂

Avatar

do you feel like a long hard surface when you feel your stomach? That’s all I feel at the moment so I feel like he’s facing away🥲

My boy is definitely in some awkward positions ha they couldn’t complete the anomaly scan on two occasions because of this and he was facing inwards and downwards 🤦🏻‍♀️ you’re right the movements im feeling today are inward so I think that just be it! X

Hey girl I’m 24 weeks 6 days am my midwife told me that if I don’t feel her mover as much like the movement reduces to go in and just check because u never know worst they can say if he’s fine is that he’s not having a good day and wats to sleep 🫶

I’m 25 weeks tomorrow & id asked about my movements as there’s days he will be having a full on party then the next he’s a lot more quieter. She did say not to worry about a pattern until 28 weeks x

This post is so reassuring. I had my 26 week midwife appointment yesterday and asked this, as last week I was getting huge kicks whereas the last few days movements have seemed duller and more infrequent. She said baby still has lots of space in there to move around, and that some women don't ever even get a pattern. I asked how do you know when to worry then, and she said if you've tried to feel movements by doing something you know would usually get them after not feeling them for a few hours; i.e drinking cold sugary drink, laying on back in the quiet. When she measured my bump she did say she couldn't feel baby's position which makes me think she must be tucked away?

It's so worrying constantly but I feel like you'll know when you need to get checked x

Small head reported following 20 week scan

Has anyone else had it flagged that their baby is in the bottom 5th percentile for head size?

They said everything was fine whilst we were in the scan and then I got a phone call the next day saying that it’s on the small side and we’re being referred to a paediatric specialist at St George’s. Has anyone else had this and how did things go??

Would you bring 9 week old to a family party of 35+ people?

These are also people who will want to pass the baby around and get a turn to hold him. He just got his 2 month shots two days ago

Exercise 6 weeks after c section

What movement did people start to introduce? I won’t do anything too vigorous until I’ve seen the pelvic physio as I don’t want to compromise anything that may have been extremely weakened through pregnancy! But just wondering what types of classes/movement people started off with?

Induction experience

I just wanted to share my experience with being induced as I wasn’t sure what to expect and thought it may help others.

I opted for the foley balloon which was inserted at 8am Saturday morning, I had to stay in hospital due to hypertension and protein urine however usually you can just go home once this has been done. The insertion of the balloon was not painful, was slightly uncomfortable as there was slight pressure. I actually found having the cervix checked prior to be worse (again not painful at this point just uncomfortable) The balloon had little effect and after having it removed I was still only 1cm. Removal also was pain free and hardly even noticeable.

I then had my first dose of the gel and definitely noticed a difference, I started experiencing period like cramps almost immediately however they were light and manageable. After 6 hours I had another cervix check and although my cervix was soft it was still only 1cm and was only open at the front. I had another dose of the gel and felt an increase in pressure and more intense cramping where I now required pain relief (codeine). After another 6 hours I had another cervix check and I had now dilated to 2-3cm however was still quite difficult to get all the way through so a third gel was recommended which I agreed to.

Almost immediately I noticed the difference and was in considerable pain, I had paracetamol and codeine however the contractions had now become intense and a lot closer together (around 3 minutes apart). After a couple of hours I had my last cervix check and was 4cm and taken down to the Labour ward to have my waters broken and an epidural.

I had been in my room for approx 20minutes when my waters broke by themselves and I was now 10cm and actively pushing…. There was no time for the epidural and my beautiful girl arrived into the world within 2 minutes of pushing.

All in all I would say the cramps/contractions were manageable up until the third gel where it became pretty unbearable however it was for a very short time a gas and air helped take the edge off. The worst part about any of it was actually the later cervix checks where after stimulating the cervix my contractions were at their most painful.

If I had to be induced again I would skip the balloon and opt for the gels immediately as thy had a quicker effect and I would have been out a lot sooner if I had done this to begin with.

One more thing, I’ve never believed when people say “you forget the pain once they’re here” but I can honestly say this is true. It’s been 4 days and I would do it all again in a heartbeat.
