Water broke...but still 1.5 cm

Ive been about 1cm for over 4 wks now. My water broke at about 11:15 pm. Did a cervix check about 1am, and still 1.5cm. 41wks to the date
How long after your water broke did active labor begin for you?

If your water broke then you are in active labor to a certain degree. I would go into labor and delivery if you haven't already. Its not safe for babies to go a certain timeframe without water, and a dry birth is not fun. Good luck

With my first my water broke and I was dilated at a 1 , had to be induced and still progressed really slow. With my second they broke my water at around 6cm around 7-8pm and had my baby at 1:30 that next morning. I definitely recommend walking around your room, bounce on the ball, use the peanut ball and try diff positions of laboring. I had an epidural at about 7cm and two of the nurses put me into a hands and knees position for 45 min and I dilated the rest of the way to a 10

If your water broke the hospital tends to want to have the baby within 24-48 hrs.

With my first - My waters went, and I was 1cm for hours!!!! I think I was 5 cm 16 hours after my waters went and baby took another 16 hours from there. Was very long!

@Terri 😫😫😫 sounds like this would be my luck.

Thank you everyone. Im admitted in labor and delivery....im feeling contractions but very little and not consistent. They have already suggested to give medical to "speed" things up...which is opposite of my birth plan. So i told them wait a bit longer and do another cervix check first. I do plan on walking around, bouncing on the ball and more, but haven't yet. Im currently using the peanut ball

With my first, my water broke at 1cm. Went to the hospital a couple hours later and was still at 1, but without contractions.
My contractions started at about the 3 hour mark and were consistent at the 4 hour mark. Then my body went into gear and started dilating naturally! I would definitely opt to give it a few hours before they push medications to speed things up bc your body is prob just warming up 😅
Good luck!!

with my second they had me walk around at first and that got things going, went from being a 4 when I got there to a 6 just with walking around , then progressed a little more by bouncing on the ball. The position they put me in(which you could do yourself without assistance if you don’t have the epidural like I did) really sped things up and got me dilated to full 10 cm.

Thank you guys. Because I've ruptured my water, they're afraid to keep doing the cervix check to avoid infection....and Because i prefer an unmedicated birth, as I've voiced out, they're leaving me be, especially since the baby's and i vitals are fine

Avatar

If this is any help, my contractions were all over the place and varied from strong and bearly there so I believed I wasnt in active labour yet I was at 10cm dialated! I know thats not the case for majority and it’s normally strong and close together or atleast consistent that is looked for but it could be some what a sense of hope, I didnt get my cervix checked st all between my membrane sweep and entering labour and delivery so I had no idea what stage I was at as in the UK they dont check you unless its deemed necessary xx

@sophie wooow. Thanks....its crazy how all our stories are sooo different, yet so similar when it comes to labor and delivery! But i sure hope all this time I'm waiting counts 😫😫 and your story does give me some hope.

With my first baby I was induced so my obgyn broke my waters herself. My 2nd baby came 2 hours after my water broke. My last baby came within maybe 30 minutes if that I really don’t know as he was born in the car on the way to my midwife

Avatar

Wooow Amber, your 3rd 😲😲. Soo crazy....but glad it waa soo quick.

It looks like I'll submit to the medication if they check me again and I'm not dilated far along. Its been over 32 hrs since my water broke, and ive bounced on the ball, walked, stretched several times, and contractions are still greatly irregular.

Avatar

it may be worth being induced at this point then , I know they say after 24hrs of your water breaking infection risk goes up a lot. I’m praying you have your baby soon girl you must be so exhausted!

take a Benadryl and see if that helps. I went from being 1-2 cm dilated around 11 in the morning to having my son a little past 4 that afternoon. Apparently it helps with dilation also.

@Amber its crazy im just seeing this!

After over 72 hours of labor, and the craziesssstt pain I've ever felt from yesterday from 3p... after getting a small dosage of pitocin every hour from 2p, she came at 1145pm (02/6/25)....God was in the room, he sent his angels to work on/for me. I Had the most amazing nurse whose expertise is unmatched!

Baby Jubilee was born weighing 6.8lbs, the smallest of all my babies...in 2 pushes...literally not exaggerating, 2 full pushes, and she was outside. Laboring was the worst part...

2 pushes is awesome! My last baby came out in one and I was surprised cuz he was just shy of 8 pounds ! Make sure you stay hydrated and get lots of rest!

C section or natural?

I am a control freak and thinking c section is the least stressful route for me and baby… less complications during labour etc. whilst acknowledging recovering can be hard.
If it could be guaranteed no tearing or complications then I would opt for natural and kind of want to experience the feeling.
Then again could plan and go either way 😂 arghh!
Anyone else in this predicament?

Period like cramps

Hi
I’m currently 33 weeks pregnant and I keep getting period like cramps I thought these were Brixton hicks but I’ve heard they only last 30 seconds ish as this can go on for a good time frame then go away and come back, they aren’t bad enough where I can’t do basic things they just feel like I’m about to get my period I’m jus wondering how normal this is? Baby is still very actively kicking xx

Homebirth?

I am thinking I want a homebirth (second baby) for a few different reasons but my husband is very against it, he is worried about things going wrong and we are a 30 minute drive from the hospital. Has anyone been in a similar position and what did you end up doing? Any advice? 🙏

Midwife check

Can someone remind me when the midwife visits you at home? Is it the day after you’re discharged? And is that the same on the weekend or do they not visit then? Thanks!
