Ive got an easy pregnancy and my child is on the average curve for height and weight but my gynaecologist recommended being induced at 39 weeks because apparently it’s better for the baby and the mother based off of some studies that have come out, as well as less risk of c section. Has anyone had a similar thing told to them?

NHS guidance is that you are offered a sweep from 39 weeks, and induction after 41 weeks… so not sure where the 39 weeks thing has come from

I was induced at 38 weeks and had a healthy pregnancy

Induction will more often than not lead to a cascade of intervention…. If there is not genuine medical reason (and I mean risk to you and/or baby) not just “chance of a big/small baby’ do not do it. There’s a reasons our bodys generally carry babies longer than 39’weeks….

I was induced for 5 days as baby wasn’t ready it was horrific ended up in c section and blood transfusions because of failed forceps and it was awful baby was not ready they were forcing it

I would refuse it, they always push for unnatural birth, if you are healthy and the baby is healthy, do it naturally, don’t let them tell you otherwise x
It’s absolutely insane, it only should be done in medical emergencies.

Completely healthy 1st pregnancy.
I was induced at 41 weeks, and my body wasn't ready for labour after sweeps.
After 12 hours of an oversensitive reaction to the pessary induction and 3 calls, they finally allowed me back to the hospital.
Monitoring showed that the baby was struggling, straight in for an emergency section, my placenta had started to partially rupture, starving baby of oxygen.
I'm not allowed a hormonal induction ever again. Nor would I ever have one again, and this time, I'm consultant led because of the last birth.

Read up on the cascade of intervention. If you’re induced you’re actually more likely to end up with an emergency c section. Spontaneous labour will produce all the good hormones you need rather than artificial ones that can make Labour a lot more intense for you etc. I would politely decline unless you’re desperate to get baby out
