I've had two now both inductions. I'm type 1 and have been since Jan 1997 which seems forever now I type it!!! The first induction i had pre-eclampsia but it was dealt with so well, I laboured fine on the drips, didn't even notice them really, and from the pessary to my son being in my arms it was less than 24 hours! Fast forward to August 2024, I went in for an induction for my little girl and it was soooooo smooth. My husband and I relaxed in the induction suite, wandered the hospital until I was ready to go to the labour ward. At that point I disconnected my pump and they used the already placed cannula so that was all smooth too. At no point was it pushed on me that I would have an amount of time shorter than normal to labour. I mean, in all labours if you choose vaginal, you could end up with a section, but both my inductions were so positive!!! The midwives knew what they were doing, they looked after me & both children, and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat! Healing was absolutely fine too ❤️
Hello ☺️ I’m keen to hear more about this too… I’m T1D for 33years, now 24weeks pregnant with my first. We haven’t discussed labour options yet but I asked what the stats were and they said 40-60% of T1D’s have c-sections, even those who have had excellent control, which just seems crazily high to me. I’m not sure if that’s due to the baby’s size, high BP, sugar issues during labour… I really don’t like the idea of being strongly encouraged to have a c-section if there’s no actual medical need presenting at the time. I’ll ask more in my next appointment … Keep us posted how you get on xx
Hey there, I've been a t1d for 14 years, my little boy was born in April last year. I was the same as you and prepared myself for elective c section. Told the same thing but in the way of...you can try for vaginal birth but we don't want you going 38 weeks. So I said I cannot plan to have vb. It's natural, what if I go over? Then they said I'd be taken in week 37 to be induced, but they said medically induced which has a 50% chance of working anyways. I told them I'd much rather have a c section and not to through the pain of induction where medically its heavy. Oh that also carries risk for my baby on the medical induction. It was a joke. Regarding my baby he arrived very safely via elective c section. I was quite unwell after but overall the safety of my baby was paramount and there was not alot of medication that would harm him unlike induction. I personally wouldn't advise. Recovery afterwards I was walking my lo round the block and to the local shops 2 weeks after, healed well 🙏🤍
I had an induction and was awful and didn’t work for me at all. I ended up signing the papers for a c section on the third day.. he ended up turning overnight and went breach so I would have to have a c section anyway. I definitely would just go for the elective c section but it’s entirely your choice. X
Hello! 2 x elective c-section mumma here 🙋🏻♀️ My first was elected as I felt abit scare mongered into it with them giving the statistics of diabetics that end up in an emergency c-section…. It went really well and was glad I did choose it in the end however with my second, I fell into early labour at 35 weeks and was in slow labour for 3 days, before in the end it ended up in a c-section. I do think it’s worth trying for vaginal! The only thing I found the second time round during my labour was the amount of lows I had😫😫 xx
