Alfred nickname

Will Alfred always be shortened to Alf/Alfie? We prefer Fred. Is Fred instinctive or will Alf/Alfie win out??

I personally would see Fred/Freddie as the initial nickname for Alfred

We have a an Alfred and he is Alfie/Alf but Fred is definitely a great nickname and one we thought of before when naming

Our little boy was going to be Alfred/Fred but I always had the same worry that Alfie would end up his nickname and I didn’t like it as much. In the end his cousin was born 8 weeks before and was named Freddie so we scrapped the idea altogether. I do think once they get older they might choose Alf/Alfie instead. I think just go for Fred if you think this might be the case and prefer Fred 😊

I thought Frederick was shortened to Fred rather than Alfred.

I think it’s fine… the nn will come from you as to what he’s known as

I agree! Whatever the nn is from the family is what usually gets used 😊

If you want to shorten it to Fred then others will follow. Just make it known from the start. But he might look more like an Alfie, you just don't know. In my experience nn come about organically

Fred/Freddie works fine as a stand alone name, Fredrick is also nice, maybe Wilfred but it might get Wilf but maybe less instinctively than Alfie

Alfie is probably a more instinctive nickname, but that's more because Alfie is such a popular name and often used as a nickname for Alfred. if you use Fred as a nickname - which is just as logical a nickname as Alfie - other people will use it too. it's just like other names with multiple nicknames - people are likely to automatically shorten Theodore to Theo, but many prefer Teddy as a nickname and if that is the nickname that the child is introduced as, people are unlikely to call him Theo - if that makes sense. it will be the same if you call your child Fred - other people will follow suit. it may be that your son opts to use Alfie or Alf as a nickname when he's older, but if you call him Fred as a child, others will do the same. 💙

Things you wish you’d do before C-Section

I’m having my section on Sunday, and trying to write a bunch of ‘self-care’ type things I want to do before hand.
Now I’m not talking the practical things like setting up changing or feeding stations etc. I’m talking things for you like shaving your legs or dying your eyebrows 😂
I know from my last section that I’m not gunna feel my best so I want to do everything I can to feel good! I’ve got a fresh haircut already!
So what are some things you did / wish you did before your c section?

UK Mums: If you had an assigned midwife for your first pregnancy, but not your 2nd. Were you a bit disappointed?

For my first pregnancy I was blessed with having an assigned midwife that I saw every appointment. She was absolutely amazing, so I guess I was spoiled in that sense. This pregnancy, I see a different midwife every appointment and I am a bit disappointed. Before anyone jumps on my back I know it is not guaranteed to have an assigned midwife. It is just hard when each midwife answered my question differently at each appointment and it took the epilepsy clinic (was referred due to having seizures in the last) to give me the actual answer. I also keep getting told that if I have any general questions to contact MAU, but I always thought they were there for urgent matters? Anyways sorry for rambling, I am just a person that feels at ease with consistency 😭

Help!

Stuck on names, I have an Ollie already.

We were set on Hugo but I don’t like any of the shortened nicknames for Hugo and don’t feel it’s as easy to say as Ollie! What do you think?

Mama’s told you were measuring big, how did you get your percentile down?

I was told 97 percentile at 20 week scan and 90 percentile at 28 week scan. I was hoping the first was inaccurate but it’s seems they are tracking large.

Any tips to get the percentile down safely before birth? I’m worried it’s food/exercise related. Any one get told more than once baby was tracking large but they came out a lower percentile?

Any tips appreciated🙏
