Would you recommend Homerton?

Hi all. I'm due in June 2025 and currently registered at Royal London. I have been pretty happy with my care so far, but starting to freak out a bit at the prospect of giving birth there due to some of the reviews I've read and experiences people have shared. So, I'm considering switching to Homerton, but first wanted to check out people's views and experiences of it so I can make an informed choice. Grateful if you could share - the good, the bad and the ugly! Thank you.

I love Homerton. They are incredible and quicker when I have any sort of problem, couldn’t ask for a better care.

I had a planned C-section at Homerton and I would do it again. Really positive experience, i felt heard, they explained everything in detail before so I was prepared. In the theatre a team of all women, the anaesthetist was very caring. 100% recommend it.

I had emergency c section and was in hospital for 5 days at Homerton and I really would never recommend this hospital to anyone

I had an emergency c-section and then a vbac at Homerton. Both experiences were good but I'd say you have to be very vocal about what you want and need. I paid for private room both times and got great care from midwives and maternity support workers. Antenatal care was good, I had extra scans and appointments with consultants who actually listened to me. However I have had family who have had horrible experiences there

@Yvonne would you mind saying a bit more about why?

sorry I just saw this!
I had to have an induction and I suffer from awful health anxiety and fear of hospitals anyway. Just the whole process I wasn’t really kept in the loop of what they were doing etc.
I had a very very long labour, had to have a catheter which wasn’t put in right and it made me bleed a lot, even when they took it out they pretty much just snatched it out of me…
I ended up in emergency c section, I was in hospital for 5 days in total and I wasn’t fed once. Every time I asked they said they would be back but never did.
My aftercare in the maternity ward was awful, I was either neglected or felt a bit bullied when they did come to me.
I was struggling a lot, and they made the whole process so much worse

Begging for pain medication but they would always take hours.
Someone said they would watch my baby so my husband could help me shower, obviously I had just had surgery so couldn’t really do it myself, but then because my baby kept crying the nurse refused and I had to attempt to shower alone
My bed and compression socks were covered in blood, every time I asked for new compression socks they just said they didn’t have any left my size.
The list is endless! Don’t get me wrong I’m sure some people had a great experience there, but me personally I’d never ever go back there

@Yvonne Oh goodness. That sounds horrendous. So sorry you went through this. It seems like there are really no guarantees wherever you go. While I seem to have heard more positive reviews about Homerton in general, it seems like Royal London may be better when there are complications.

sorry I don’t mean to scare you off the place! Just wouldn’t want to see someone going there without saying how my experience went first
I heard Hammersmith hospital is a great one

Avatar

No, I appreciate you sharing your story. Thanks for the recommendation. Hammersmith is too far from me, and I'm starting to think maybe I should just stick with RLH as it's the most convenient, my experience so far has been good, and it sounds like everyone has their own experience, so there's no guarantees wherever you go. Also, if there were any problems, RLH seems like a good place to be. Such a difficult choice though, and you don't really know until you've been through it. Think I'll speak to my midwife at my next appointment and see if she can provide any reassurance. Thanks again x

just go with where feels best for you and don’t stress too much! Hoping for a safe delivery for you ❤️ congratulations

Scan needed at 33 weeks

Hi ladies! I just had a midwife appointment (I am 33+5)..the midwife was different to my usual midwife. She's requested I have a scan within 72 hours as she said baby is measuring a little small, however, she did say that it's likely nothing to worry about and it's probably just her measuring me a bit different to my usual midwife. Has anyone else had this? Am a bit worried although babys heartbeat and movements are completely fine.

Finding out gender

Has anyone found out the gender at a private scan at 14 weeks? And has this been accurate?

I found out at 17 with my first but I know a scan place that offers from 14/15 weeks and I’m impatient 😂🥲

Anyone been induced before? Was it more painful? Better than thought? Worse than thought? Worth it? Thoughts?
