Did Neocate formula maybe anyone else baby constipation and when pooing it’s hard lumps as I’m not sure if it’s Neocate or the gaviscon that’s causing his poo to be solid
As he is only 6 weeks old

Definitely will be the gaviscon, it’s known to cause constipation. Neocate actually makes it runnier as it’s a thinner milk x

It's definitely the gaviscon the neocate does make it a bit thicker then normal but the gaviscon will cause the solid poops, u can ask for lactulose to help soften it or u can try carobel or Omeprazole instead but both have there own side effects carobel can also cause constipation but with that u can decide how much they have and decrease it if u want to soften there poo. Please no matter what anyone says even if a GP says it never ever give ur baby water or water down there formula it can kill them, cause seizures, permanent brain damage, renal failure, kidney failure, permanent digestive damage and issue. Some ppl will say I gave my baby it and they were fine, survivors syndrome is a dangerous thing, babies under 6 months should not consume any water unless its to make formula. GPs aren't trained in baby medicine enough to no the consequences of giving babies water was told this by my paediatrician x

My daughter ended up in hospital with severe constipation from Gaviscon. We were then put on omeprazole and used carobel to thicken the milk a little

My baby is pooing it’s just bit hard for him to pass he needs the gaviscon for his reflux and to make him bottles thing the only thing that seems to work to get him to drink his bottles so he is still pooing just not soft they are he can have lactolose but try first without it

Can o ask how you prepare this please? Just been prescribed it and wondered if I can use the Nuby to cool the water rather than waiting 30 mins? Please help 😅

it only mixed for me if it was below 45 degrees so yes I’d say nuby would be fab x

Neocate is to be made with cool boiled water which needs to be at room temp. So yes you can use the rapid cool to get it cooled down before adding in the powder x

na @Julia I thought formula needs to be made at 70⁰C in order for it to kill the bacteria In the milk? On the tin it says just cooled boiled water like very other formula. I'm not saying ur wrong coz I've seen people say this a few times but where did u get 45⁰C from we have been doing it at 70 ish degrees for months with neocate because we were told it needs to be that temperature is it even safe after 45⁰C to kill bacteria in the milk? I'm worried I've been making my babies bottle wrong this entire time x

no not for Neocate or many other CMPA milks, it’s got to be room temperature or it actually kills the nutrients in the formula with the way it’s designed and it makes the milk taste foul. I learned this the hard way as I was making the milk with 70 degree water and it smelled like pure vinegar and my little one wouldn’t touch it. Most doctors will say ‘it’s not sterile you need to follow NHS guidelines’ but for these milks they’re not made the same and most doctors aren’t aware of that x

im surprised you can even get it to mix if you’re using 70°C water. When I first tried doing it that way before I asked the paediatrician it was literally so bitty and wouldn’t dissolve x

will it still be sterilised tho? I don't want to give him harmful bacteria surely that's worse then killing some nutrients. I'm so confused and concerned x

These are off the neocate actual website x

why wouldn't they tell u this when they give u this? Like why wouldn't the dietician say btw don't prep it the same temp as normal formula ull kill all the good stuff n it's basically white water. This is ridiculous my son has been on neocate for 6 months and I've been destroying the nutrients and stuff this entire time! Now I'm worried I've been hurting him thos entire time depriving him of the stuff he needs. So many people don't no this my friends baby has been on neocate for 7 months and never knew this

I know they didn’t tell me either!! doctor told me to make it as normal but I noticed it smelt horrific so I looked into it and asked her paediatrician and she said because it’s made in the US it’s completely different as the powder is already sterile unlike ours in the UK. It’s shocking how little care they take to tell people this sort of stuff

it says on the website that it's not sterile before water but how does adding cold water sterilise it? I'm confused coz it says u can make it at any temp 50⁰C or below I don't want my baby to have harmful bacteria introduced to him, their doesn't seem to be a straight answer x

basically the 70°c + for bottles is just a UK thing, they don’t do it in the US. Because they don’t do it there, they make their powder in a certain way and if it’s exposed to hot temperatures it kills the nutrients and affects the taste, smell and ability to dissolve. It’s NHS guidelines to do the 70°c + with formula, but other countries don’t do it x

Can I use prep machine to make my babies Neocate bottles

no because the hot shot is 70°c so it’s too hot. You can do the hot shot and the cool shot straight after another and add the powder at the end tho if that makes sense x

but I thought it was 70⁰C because that's the only temperature cronobacter can die at according to the CDC and cronobacter is the only reason we sterilise the formula. I have no idea anymore this is so confusing why can't everyone use the same rules in every country who knew it would be so different and complicated x

this is why in the US they have sooo many more recalls with formula than we do because they don’t care as much as we do. We make our formula to make sure we can sterilise the actual formula. But the way they make their powder means we can’t do it our way. The only thing I would suggest is to try and find a milk that can be done our way, but it’s not as simple as that with our CMPA babies who we’ve spent months trying to get okay again ☹️

Neocate doesn’t need sterilised. It’s meant to be made with cool boiled water due to the good bacteria in it and hot water just kills it off x

I know love x

I'd say it's probably the gaviscon. Usually hydrolysed formulas cause runnier poos I think x
