I exclusively pump and my 5m baby takes around 7oz breast milk every 4hrs from a bottle. She spits up frequently throughout the day, even hours after feeds and always has loose stools yet when I’ve questioned this with HV she said it’s normal. Are blowouts every single time normal? Is spitting up multiple times throughout the day normal? And could the loose poos be a result of overfeeding? I’ve also seen information saying they shouldn’t take more than 5oz breastmilk at a time. Should I lower her feeds down to 5oz? Seeing as she’s been used to and happily taking 7oz won’t she be hungry? I’m so confused 😩 I should mention she shows no other signs of being overfed like no discomfort, the spitting up literally never bothers her and neither do the poos she shows no signs of discomfort ever in regards to feeding

I don’t think you can over feed a baby with breastfeeding so I’m presuming it’s the same whether it comes straight from the boob or the bottle.
I wouldn’t say blowouts are normal for every single poo. The only thing that comes to mind maybe she has an intolerance to something in your diet like gluten or diary
As im sure that can be transferred through your breast milk. Especially a cows milk allergy. Have you ever tried to get rid of certain things in your diet and if that changes anything
7oz does sound alot when it comes to breast milk to be honest
Maybe try lowering it and see what happens you can always give her more if she’s still looking or showing signs of hunger
Also with the loose poos they will most likely change when you start solids with her
I don’t know if any of that will help but your doing an amazing job

I was feeding my baby 6 Oz and saw the information about 5oz of milk and she was being sick afterwards and she is not a sicky baby so I started pace feeding and now she only takes 4 - 4.5 Oz and isn't sick if she has any more she is sick so I know she's taken it too quickly.
Thank you both of you ! I do try pace feeding but she gets so frustrated every time I try to pause for a break, she screams the second the bottle is pulled away so ends up being sick anyway 😂we do still sit her upright and hold the bottle horizontal and keep her upright after feeds for as long as possible. I think today I’m going to try offering smaller bottles and see how it goes x

They say you can’t over feed a breastfed baby, if she’s spitting up frequently she might have a bit of reflux. Loose stools are very normal for breastfed babies, breastmilk acts as a natural laxative for their digestive systems. The amount of outfit changes my little boy went through in a day because of poosplosions was ridiculous 🥲 If she’s a healthy weight and growing well, I wouldn’t worry about over feeding her, if she was taking it straight from the breast you wouldn’t know how many ounces she was having, you’d just be basing it off her cues. If it was projectile vomiting, then definitely a trip to the GP, but other than that it sounds like she’s doing well! 🌸

I'm naturally lactose intolerant so I've not had many reflux issues but I'm going to have to start introducing it once we start weaning so you could try that as a start of nothing changes with offering less...also she hates being burped so when I say pace feeding I don't mean the proper kind just feeding her slowly 🤣
Thank you all so much xxx
