My girl has always been put to sleep by gentle bouncing and shushing and although it has taken some time on a bad night, we have a consistent method that’s always worked for us. Over the last couple of days, she’s started getting upset and shrieking when I try to get her to sleep and is fighting it so much. She eventually gives in but I hate her going to sleep upset. It feels like a battle rather than a nice gentle cuddle. She’s 11 weeks for reference.
Is this a regression? Has anyone else experienced this? Would love some advice!

We’re going through this at the moment, the majority of naps feel like battles and methods that worked 2 weeks ago now do very little! Very much hoping it’s a phase / growth spurt because like you say it’s really hard to see them so worked up and fighting rather than being soothed 😞

My girls the same, cries, screams I have to constantly rock till she cries herself to sleep.. it’s horrible, she’s 13 weeks

Maybe she isn't tired enough? Does she show signs of being tired when you're getting her down for a nap?

yeah yawns runs eyes then bang cries cos gets overtired
Thanks so much for the replies! Hope it passes soon, it’s horrible isn’t it. out of interest, how long has this been happening for you? I don’t think it’s a timing issue for us either as we follow wake windows, use the huckleberry app sweet spot recommendations and look for sleepy cues - mine gets a red brow as soon as she’s tired so it’s hard to miss. I think it’s developmental and really hope it’s temporary!

So mine started doing this around 13 weeks, I read somewhere it’s when they’ve had enough of been held/rocked to sleep but the “put them drowsy but awake” theory seems like witchcraft.
She’s 15 weeks now and I’m unbelievably I’ve just managed my first drowsy but awake - you could always try it for 10 minutes and pick up and carry on the usual method if it doesn’t work? X

interesting! Mine definitely still wants to be held but is much less comforted by rocking, it’s like he wants to use my breathing / heat to help him relax but is fuming if I actively try to help. Might have a go at drowsy but awake for a few naps and see how we go!
that makes sense! Thank you! Mine definitely gets more cross the harder I try…
Drowsy but awake seems to be the holy grail of sleep so, if that’s what this leads to, I will be chuffed! Fingers crossed. Well done for managing it with yours ☺️

Been since her last set of jabs few weeks now.. will only stay asleep if on me..

how long do you leave them to cry if don’t settle?
