5 weeks post C section

Hi, so I’m 5 and a half weeks post C section, and it looks like my wound/incision has opened up quiet a bit in a couple of places, and it bleeds a little when I lift my tummy pouch to check on it. I have my 6 week check up at the GP on Monday, if it has opened up would the GP restitch it then and there on Monday? Or is there anything else they can do? Anybody else had a wound that’s opened back up? I don’t want to go to the appointment on my own if it’s going to be a bit scary (scared of needles)

If its opened up I wouldn’t wait until Monday to get it seen to as its quite a sweaty and humid area so its just inviting infection in. Are you still under the midwife or have you been cleared? If you still are then you can get in touch with triage to get it seen to. If not i’d get in touch with your drs or even 111

My wound opened back up on day 3 post op. I had to go back to hospital - they didn’t restitch, just gave me antibiotics and advised to let it close back up on its own which unfortunately hasn’t fully happened yet (although mine was bleeding quite a bit). I am now almost 5 weeks PP. It’s no longer bleeding but you can see where it hasn’t quite come back together. It also got infected again and I had another lot of antibiotics this time from GP. Absolutely show it to the GP on Monday but my advice would be to call maternity triage in the meantime and get it seen by a consultant sooner.

I also agree with the comment above, it’s so easy for it to get infected. Take it from the person who had an infection twice already despite cleaning and keeping it dry!

Hey sweet, my wound has been open since 7 weeks ago and it’s only just about starting to close now. Keep it dry by patting it with a sanitary pad and keeping it as clean as possible. Ring your gp asap and explain the situation and they will get you in that day normally, all they will do is swab it if it’s infected or just patch it up with some sterile dressings and get it changed every 3 days. If you need to ask any questions then feel free to pop me a message x

Thank you everyone for your kind responses! I’m signed off from the midwife now, but I’ll contact the doctors first thing in the morning and see if I can get a sooner appointment 😊

Hiiii, mine opened up 3 times over 6months. They don’t restitch, you get antibiotics & are told to keep it clean, dry & not to use creams/scented wash. I think I was just unlucky but luckily I had steristrips due to my job so I just asked my partner to pinch the wound together & apply the strip. Just keeps the skin together to heal quicker. What I wouldn’t do is lift your skin up to check, as you’re effectively stretching your skin away each time. Lye flat and use a mirror if you want to check in on it. And dab it or use a hair dryer on a very low heat to dry after showering. The doctors should get you in right away I was seen each time within hours. Ask the gp for steristrips they can give them over prescription
