Boy names

I like the names Wilbur & Willoughby, both potentially shortened to Wilby but I really dislike the name Will (no offence to any children with that name, just preference) What’s putting me off is would people just automatically call him Will anyway?

My son is Thomas. I’ve never shortened it and no one does. He is 15.

I'm a Charlotte and will just tell people that I don't go by Charlie. However, my mum and dad wanted me to be shortened to Lottie, and I went through a 4-year-old rebellion of 'don't call me Lottie'... then regretting it 20 years later. So, there's nothing to say that he'll prefer Will over Wilby

I have people that will try to shorten my name to Kell and I hate it and tell them that's not my name and I go by Kelli. This is the entire reason I will not use one of my favorite boy names if I ever have a boy: Edward. I cannot stand the name Ed or Eddie (sorry for the boys named or nicknamed that, it's just my opinion) and I can't stop my son from using the nicknames if he prefers it. My brother is named Michael and he goes by Mike. My parents would prefer him going by Michael but you can't stop a 35 year old from going by whatever name he wants.

It’s a risk. If you really hate it then it’s not a good idea.
