Why have they said you’re in for a rough couple of days? 1cm dilated & 50% effaced sounds pretty normal and extremely common? How many weeks are you? I can’t work out the background of your situation from your post

Avatar

38 weeks. They have said that cause i’m contracting quite strongly

Avatar

I also suffer with severe pgp so she said you will suffer

Ahhh ok lovely that makes more sense to me now I was wondering if you were contracting. It’s really different for everyone you could get to 100% in the next few days or you might go to full term. Have they said just to watch and wait? Or have they discussed induction given your PGP? Are you in pain at the moment or is it bearable? Can they offer you any stronger pain meds (not paracetamol)

My waters broke over 48 hours before contractions in both my pregnancies. When my contractions did start I went from 1cm early labour to 6cm active labour (in both pregnancies) within the hour or less. I had strong period cramps in early labour with my 2nd (started at 2.45pm) that would settle with paracetamol or a hot water bottle or if I was to walk around. My son was born at 7.30pm that day. Overall both labours for my boys were 6.5 hour for 1st born and just under 5 hours for my 2nd born from when the mild contractions started. So things can turn around quickly. Hope things move quickly for you like they did for me! Just to add I was having on off cramps (not what I’d call contractions tho) early hours of the morning at 4am as I was also having reduced movements, the day my son was born so I was at MAU for a check! The pain started getting more intense as the day went on properly starting at 2.45pm. Good luck x

I have been having quite intense contractions and she did say that, I have an induction booked for the 17th. They have given me stronger medication aswell.

Avatar

okay that’s positive. Do you feel like the meds are working? It might be quite a ride for you but honestly if you’re having intense contractions you might go into labour asap.. keep timing them on your phone, how often you having them?

Avatar

Well last night they were every 5 minutes lasting up to a minute but she said they needed to be closer. But this morning i feel really sick and just exhausted with like period cramping?

“You will suffer” is a horrible thing for (I assume?) a midwife to say!!

Try and stay positive. If you can avoid anxiety and stress you’ll reduce your adrenaline production and your labour will progress more easily. Relaxing warm baths, have a little dance (sounds silly but moving your body does help), bounce on a yoga ball etc…

You’ll be fine. This is what your body was made to do AND every contraction brings you closer to meeting your baby xx

Avatar

Yeah they are working they just knock me out tho is all x

it sounds really close! Everything you’re saying to me sounds like your body is really getting itself ready for labour! is so right it’s your body and we are made to do this!! 💪🏼 I’ve got two kids and I’d have more in a heartbeat - so it can’t be that bad 😉 but yes when I was trying to hurry my contractions along I went for a walk, ate spicy food (which I’m sure has put me into labour twice I don’t think it’s an old wives tale!!) and used pregnancy ball and just really chilled out watched my fave Netflix show and ate lots of snacks 😅 my partner was off work with me so it made it a lot more bearable the sitting and waiting!

Have a bath, do whatever makes you comfortable, baby sounds like they’re nearly ready to meet you & as painful or “sufferable” as it may be for you, you’re gonna have a beautiful babe soon and they make it SO worth it! I can’t imagine you’ll make your induction date especially with contractions every 5 min. Early labour can stop and start though.

I recommend trying to stay at home as long as possible, I wasn’t able to in my 1st pregnancy but in my 2nd I was so much more calmer in my own surroundings on my sofa!

Avatar

Yes i will be having a spicy curry drinking my pineapple juice , bouncing on my ball and watching netflix to get things moving . This is my first so a lot of anxiety about it all x

Avatar

Yeah they have said to try and stay home. Just feels like a really bad period atm with the cramping and nausea xx

Avatar

yes I was also anxious in my first pregnancy, tbh and my second - people that say they aren’t in their second I think lie.. they’re your baby your bound to be anxious until they’re in your arms! Pineapple is a great one haha, please keep us updated (if you want!) X🫶🏼

Avatar

Yes defo will. Was convinced it was all in my head last night so to hear that no things are moving along and she’s happy i’m over the moon!! thank you aswell for all the advice xx

Avatar

If any encouragement helps I was told with my first when I first went in that I wasn’t effaced or dilated but having contraction every 3 mins for a 1 minute. Got told it would it would be days before I was back in that’s was at 4am- I was back in at 9am and was 4cm dilated in active labour.

Everyone is different try not to let there words get you down, you’ve got this !

Hospital bag (UK)

What did everyone pack for their section? I'm staying in for 3 days due to mental health, not really sure what I'll need to bring, feeling very nervous. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

Pregnancy after c section

What time scale did everyone get pregnant again after a c section?
I know the doc said they recommend eating at least a year to 18 months but it took 4 years to get pregnant the first time after being told we could not conceive naturally so not wanting to stop it happening knowing it could take a very long time again but also worried.

Labour

Think im a bit confused really, i went into traige as was having contractions eveey 3-5mins. Since being here im now having them every 2-3mins which was confirmed with the machine and i think the toco was 90-100 and they feel painful and my lower back is in loads of pain but apparently im only just over 2cm dilated maybe, she has said i can stay here for a bit longer to see if things progress as had a previous quick birth as well but i dont understand why the pains are coming this quick if im only 2cm dilated and feel a bit deflated from it also.

I had a sweep this morning also.

Reduced movements

26 weeks and haven’t really felt little baby all day, she’s usually super active & I have a posterior placenta so I feel her all the time usually. I did feel her ever so briefly earlier right down into my pelvis. I was at maternity triage the other night with tummy cramps but everything was fine and so was baby. What should I do? I don’t want to feel like a nuisance?
