Car accident... replacement seats?

Hi, i had a very small bump today, someone rear ended us whilst I was stationary. Other than being shaken up, and an extra trauma for my little girl after her jabs (literally on the way home from them!!)... we're all fine!

Anyway, as it is technically a crash, the insurance are replacing the car seat. Am I right in thinking we shouldn't be using this at all now, no matter how minor the incident?

I have a spare joie for my husband's car but I feel like i won't do anything more than short and 100% necessary journeys with that seat as it just looks so big for her, even with the newborn insert.

Anyway, anyone been in a similar situation, know how long the replacement took to come?

Don’t use it at all no.

Pop a picture on with her in the seat if you want for a fit check?

I have no experience of how long it takes to come back from insurance, but I’d like to think within a week xx

Glad you’re all okay🥰

@Kiera that'd be amazing, thank you! Just waiting for him to get the newborn insert out the loft as we put it in there thinking we wouldn't use this car seat until she was much older.

She's also very sleepy after jabs so hopefully she will wake up not to angry at testing it out 😬

the newborn insert and cushion should be in until around 2 years old so you’ll definitely need it for the coming weeks.

She’s only quite young still so she may not fit well in the Joie for another few weeks.

Pop it on whenever you can, fingers crossed she’s in a good mood😢xx

Our new insurance car seat came super fast within a couple of days, I was very surprised/impressed. You shouldn’t use the car seat again when the new one arrives (we had to use ours until the new one came)

@Naomi I thought i couldn't use it at all, as God forbid something worse happened in that wait period, surely I'd be liable for her injuries having put her in a car seat that's been in a crash? I'm happy accepting I'm housebound for a few days, she has a hospital appointment Wednesday in another city but I'm calling tomorrow to rearrange as I don't think it's worth the risk.

@Kiera ah this makes sense, I'll be honest I didn't read the instructions as it wasn't meant to be used until she goes to nursery at 1yo, as we currently just swap cars for the odd occasion he has her without me. Didn't end up putting her in it last night as she was super sad from the jabs. So will do it at some point today (at a better hour!)
Although I think you're right, as it doesn't "recline" as much as I'd like, i
have a feeling her head will flop forwards when asleep 😔

Yeah @chloe you shouldn’t use it if you don’t need to. The issue we had was our smash was on holiday 3hrs away from home so we had to get home somehow!

Avatar

@Naomi oh god that's terrifying! Luckily mine was a 30 second drive to my house so I did put her back in it for that!

Avatar

@Naomi sorry another question, did they replace with the same model car seat? Or something they deem fit for baby's age? I'm worried now as they haven't asked for the model, and there's alot "from birth" that don't actually look great for infants.

We had an accident last year and they wouldn’t allow us to take our seats out the car at all or away from the scene to ensure we didn’t use them again. I brought 2 car seats the next day and just sent proof of purchase to my insurance and they paid me the cost of the car seats within 24 hours. Message me if you have any questions x

Avatar

@chloe. Yes they replaced like for like so the isofix base and car seat - was exactly the same as we had. We had to submit a picture and details of what we had and then (by the time we got home from holiday) it was on the door step!

With mine the insurance just asked for proof of purchase for my original car seat and bank transferred the money i’d payed for that straight over. They said they would have sent me more if it had gone up in price since i bought it x

Not drinking

I’m going crazy. Baby born at 2.26kg. Slow to put on weight. This last week hasn’t put on any. Been trying to feed him at night and he’s not interested at all. Fast asleep. During day he will have 5 minute gulps and that’s it. He don’t cry for milk. I’ve got to keep offering to him. I try to offer it every hour but I don’t know what I’m doing. HV said nutrition comes after 5 minutes so I should pump first and then give him. I find it so hard. I tried to pump one boob nothing came. The other abit came. Tried giving him express he’s not interested in that too. Sometimes he will go for a longer a feed but not long at all. He’s 4 months and is currently 5.46kg. I have no family or friend support here and wish I had a cook, cleaner and nanny to help with everything so I can concentrate on the little one. I don’t know what’s wrong with him but I’m loosing it. It doesn’t help that my also stressed generally about my relationship and life circumstances. Any advice that will work. Any comfort you can give. I’m fed up. Is this regression - not feeding. He’s fast fast asleep. I’ve been trying to push the nipple in but that mouth is closed shut. I took some clothes off. Changed his nappy but he’s still asleep. Please help

Leaky nappy help

What nappies are you using to stop leaks?? We use pampers ultra dry size 5, and for the past few nights he has lashed through and we’ve had to completely change him during the night. Last night he leashed through twice!! He sleeps on his front and stays leaks through at the top of his leg where the tabs connect. Didn’t know whether to size up, he has a bit of a belly on him but he’s smack in middle of weight guidance so shouldn’t need too

5.30am wakeups 😫😴

My 15 week old has started waking up about 5.30am and is really hard to settle back down - it’s like he thinks it’s time to wake up for the day. He used to go to bed at 9pm and was up at 8am but now he goes to bed between 7.30-8pm as he’s knackered by then but waking up at 5.30am😴. Any advice to get him to sleep a little longer in the morning?! Even an extra hour would be lovely 🤣

New born

Finally had my baby girl via C-section on the 18th, everything has been so far. But I’ve noticed she’s very fussy and cries a lot. I’ve been trying to exclusively breastfeed. The lactation consultant at the hospital said I did look like I’m making enough milk for her. She was latching on good at the hospital and now here at home, she doesn’t seem to want to latch at all. She’s been crying a lot and very fussy. I’m just wondering is she’s colic or like maybe she just doesn’t want the breast anymore?
