How to gain breast milk supply?!

So I had my March baby in February, because she came early my colostrum hadn’t come in so there was barely anything there in order to feed her the day she was born so I had to use formula. I kept trying to latch her on after that but she wouldn’t so I kept giving formula whilst still trying. After all that she didn’t even want to latch on as she knew she was having to work for a tiny bit of colostrum & wanted the fast paced bottle instead & now I’m 2 months pp & barely have any supply 😭
I try to pump when I can in order to get a flow going but it’s so hard as I also have an autistic toddler to look after. Can anyone give me any advice on this please

In the exact same position as you! Had my baby via emergency c section 2.5 weeks early and was very unwell post so was unable to feed her. Now she is 6 weeks and since being out of hospital I latch her on maybe once a day or two when her formula isn’t ready just yet to settle her. She does sometimes drink and stay latched for Upto 20 minutes however drinks a full bottle straight after so I’m thinking she can’t be drinking much breast milk ?

I have a hand free momcozy pump also and when expressing both sides for 20 minutes I only get 1/1.5ml 😭 I would absolutely love to exclusively bf her but I can’t be expressing 1 - 2ml at a time only

I’m in a similar position! I was never able to collect any colostrum - baby boy latched on after birth but we’ve been having difficulty since! I’ve been formula feeding him mostly with occasional breast milk but also express daily to keep my milk supply up but I collect so little that it almost seems pointless! I also would love to exclusively breastfeed/give breast milk but struggling! X

I would suggest just keep pumping. Even the stimulation action alone even though not getting any milk out. Will signal the body to produce more. I’ve tried many pumps including mom cosy, tommytippee. I highly suggest the medela solo (not hands free). This is the one they use in the hospitals and it is very good at getting most of the milk out. When I swapped from momcosy to medela I got double the supply out!

Try hottea mama - milks up tea on amazon - helped me increase my supply

I’m in the same boat, I had an emergency section and pph got baby latched but it wasn’t a great latch and I didn’t realise till a week in it wasn’t right I’ve since been seeing a lactation specialist and breast feeding support workers who gave me the advice of feed every three hours, pump an hour and a half after the feed it doesn’t matter about output just the stimulation is enough and if baby wants to feed inbetween the three hours latch her on it all stimulates supply. I’ve doubled my supply doing this xx

My midwife suggested to do 'power pumping' to boost milk supply if you're pumping, it's to mimic cluster feeding. Look it up, but you basically pump for short spurts (10 min on, 10 min off, 3 or so times). But totally understand that might be tricky with a toddler!

it’s so disheartening when you pump & then look to see you’ve collected the tiniest amount, like it honestly makes me sad but I really do hope that all you lovely ladies somehow manage to boost your supply so much & have an amazing flow x it’s reassuring to know I’m not alone & it is normal, thank you for responding to me

thank you ladies so much for your suggestions! I have one momcozy electric pump & also have one medela manual pump so what I will try to do is pump with the electric pump first to get a rhythm going & to get out that tiny bit & then use the medela hand pump to sort of push out anything else. Will definitely be trying the tea! Thank you

The only thing that would 100% work is pumping more, 8-12X a day and at least one in the night.
You can also try supplements but they don’t always work, or try getting donperidone prescribed, but with all of these you’d have to pump more still.
Have you tried seeing a lactation consultant?

I’ve not seen a consultant or specialist yet as I’ve just been so busy with the baby plus my toddler, it’s honestly been hard navigating as a mother of 2 but I really do need to get in touch with the breastfeeding team in my area x

I’m in a similar position and it’s really hard! Once you start with formula it seems very difficult to go back to breast. I’ve had support from my local lactation consultants and health visitor but the advice is similar to what’s already been said - pump and bring baby to the breast as many times as possible to stimulate supply (works in theory but in practice I’m finding it very hard to find time to pump 8 times a day, particularly when LO won’t be put down!) Have also been recommended Fenugreek as a supplement which could help boost supply! Hope you find something that works x

Help! First time mum -

I have a 4 month old and now all of a sudden when he’s been asleep for 1hr30/2hrs he will wake up screaming (high pitched) I’ve tried winding him sometimes that helps, I’ve tried bicycle legs & bringing his knees up but that doesn’t seem to help but he brings his knees up himself sometimes but nothing happens. I’ve noticed since the 4 month mark he has started to struggle passing wind downwards! Any tips?

Crying during feeding

Hey mams! My girl is 6 weeks on Monday and is having so much trouble with feeding. It doesn’t happen every feed but more often than not she will start a bottle and just start crying as if she’s in pain and she can’t take the milk. I think it’s trapped wind but I genuinely don’t know what to do it’s so pitiful to see her not be able to feed! She’s formula fed and on HiPP Organic.
Anyone else been in this position? I’m pretty sure it’s just a bit of trapped wind that she needs to fart out but can’t! If anyone has any advice I’d be very grateful as I think I may need to tape my eyelids open soon 😂

Bedtime holding

For those who hold their baby to get them to sleep, how long are you holding them before putting them down? I’m currently struggling with this because if I put my LO down before the next sleep cycle starts, he will most often need resettling 30-40 mins later to connect to the next sleep cycle so I’m finding it easier to hold him for the entire first sleep cycle until he connects to his second cycle as sometimes resettling is a pain. This means I’m holding him for around 50 mins before putting him down. This isn’t sustainable as it’s eating into so much of my evening. Any tips? Should I get put him down as soon as he sleeps and bear the resetting bit and is it normal for babies to wake up 30-40 mins later after putting them down for night time sleep?

Just for context my baby is about the turn 5 months so I know it’s developmentally appropriate for them to wake up 30-40 mins after nap / daytime sleep but is this also meant to happen for night time sleep? Could it also be a problem linked to false start?
